They were originally bred to become working retrievers of waterfowl for fishermen in the province of Newfoundland, Canada. The Labrador Retriever is known for its even temperament, intelligence, hardiness, strength, and adaptability, in addition to its eagerness for playing and retrieving. They also possess high levels of energy and stamina, making them excellent hunters, swimmers, and dock divers; this is why they excel in agility, obedience, and tracking competitions.
