It is not necessarily the breed itself that can cause allergies. Some individuals may be more sensitive to a certain type of breed, but it is ultimately dependent on the individual. Depending on the severity of your allergies, you may benefit from spending time with Labradors, as well as regularly brushing, bathing, and vacuuming to reduce dander and other allergens.

Labrador Retrievers, like all breeds of dogs, require a lot of care in order to maintain optimal health. Their exercise requirements are similar to other large breeds and include daily walks and ample opportunity for physical activity. However, Labradors possess unique dietary and socialization needs. Generally speaking, they require an abundance of high-quality protein. Also, while Labradors are usually friendly, they require careful socialization in order to remain confident around people and other animals.
Labrador Retrievers are generally considered to be medium to large-sized dogs. Of course, size can vary slightly depending on a particular dog's breed and lines. They have a thick, heavy coat which can make them seem larger, but their typical weight usually falls within the 50-80 pound spectrum. Labradors are also known for being lively and active, so even though they may be considered a bigger breed, their energy and enthusiasm for activities make them a great fit for a home.
Generally speaking, a Labrador Retriever should get at least an hour of exercise each day. Depending on your pup's age, health, and activity level, this should be broken up into a few smaller walks throughout the day. Aim for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon or evening. Younger dogs will require more frequent and longer walks, while senior dogs may need slightly shorter and slower-paced outings. In order to keep your pup mentally and physically stimulated, add some variety to your routine by taking advantage of local dog parks, beaches, or woods.
Labrador Retrievers make excellent family dogs. They are highly intelligent, loyal, and loving creatures who thrive off of the companionship and care of their families. Training a Labrador Retriever requires time, patience, and consistency. Depending on the goal of the training, the amount of time needed per day can vary. Additionally, positive reinforcement practices should be consistently implemented during training, such as providing treats and verbal praise for successful commands.
