A Labrador Retriever is a beloved breed of dog, renowned for its intelligence, good nature, and lust for life. Labradors possess strong retrieving instincts, which makes them perfect for hunting and for their reputation as beloved family pets. On average, a Labrador Retriever stands approximately 21 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder, and weighs between 55 and 75 pounds. These dogs have a unique water-resistant coat of short hair, which usually comes in solid black, chocolate, or yellow colors.
Labrador Retrievers are not considered to be a hypoallergenic breed. Although their double coat helps keep allergens from spreading, there is still an amount of dander and other allergens that are present in these dogs that can trigger an allergic reaction in people. Labrador Retrievers aren't considered small dogs. While Labs are considered a medium-sized breed, they actually come in two different sizes.
