A Labrador Retriever is a medium-sized breed of dog that is part of the retriever family. Known for their friendly, outgoing personalities and lovable demeanor, Labradors are loyal companions as well as working dogs, employed in various capacities from search and rescue to therapy work. Labradors have short, dense coats that come in a variety of shades, including black, chocolate, and yellow, and boast expressive, soulful eyes. They have a tendency to be adventurous and intelligent, which makes them easily trainable and reliable hunting dogs.
No, Labrador Retrievers are not hypoallergenic. Labradors do not have a layer of fur that is hypoallergenic, as they are considered a more "fluffy" breed of dog. While their coats can come in varieties which are considered to be low shedding, Labrador Retrievers generally produce more dander—dead skin cells, saliva, and urine that can be highly allergenic. Unfortunately, this makes them a difficult breed to own for those with severe allergies or respiratory problems.
