Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are the perfect pet for any family and are known for being incredibly loving, gentle, and intelligent. They can live for up to 15 years and love to receive attention and playtime with their family members. Some fun facts about Maltipoos include that they are friendly and get along with most other animals, they love to be around people so they make great companions, and they enjoy learning new tricks and commands. These furry family members have a wonderful coat that has some surprising benefits.
Maltipoos typically have a thick, straight or curly coat, depending on the parents' genes. This breed typically has a low-shedding, non-allergenic coat that is hypoallergenic and highly desirable to those sensitive to other breeds' coats. Maltipoo coats are usually described as soft and silky to the touch. Their fur generally does not need to be trimmed and will grow in length if not groomed. Maltipoos come in a variety of colours, such as white, cream, apricot, brown, gray, and black.
Maltipoos are a mix between a Maltese and a Poodle, thus their nutritional needs will depend on which of these two breeds they most closely resemble. Generally speaking, Maltipoos should be fed a balanced diet that includes dry dog kibble and wet food. These meals should be nutrient-rich and have the correct balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to help maintain optimal health. Raw diets are an option, but should only be given with the assistance of a veterinarian who can guide you.
Being the best puppy parent for your Maltipoo requires diligence, patience, consistency, and love! First, make sure your home is puppy-proofed and create a designated space for your pup to use. Stick to a regular schedule for potty breaks, naps, playtime, and meals. Make sure to provide plenty of exercise to keep your pup healthy and happy. Give your pup plenty of positive reinforcement when they do something good, and gently, yet firmly, convey expectations when they misbehave.
Maltipoos come in a range of sizes that can vary somewhat depending on the size of the parent breeds. A Maltipoo's weight at maturity typically falls between 4 and 20 pounds, but they can range from as small as a few pounds at adulthood to 25 pounds (or more). Their height depends on the size of their parents, but typically falls in the range of 8 to 15 inches at the shoulder. In general, a Toy Maltipoo is usually 8-10 inches in height and 4 to 7 pounds in weight at maturity.
Taking your Maltipoo running can be a great way to get exercise, form an even stronger bond between you and your pup, and enjoy the great outdoors! But before you head out for a run, it's important to gauge your dog's overall health and physical fitness level. No matter the breed or size, all dogs need to be properly conditioned before engaging in strenuous exercise. Talk to your vet to make sure your Maltipoo is healthy enough to go running and ask for advice on how to properly get your pup into running shape.
Maltipoos, or Maltese-Poodle mixes, are generally very friendly and sociable dogs and get along well with other pets. They enjoy playing and interacting with other animals and thrive on companionship. If introduced properly, Maltipoos can form strong bonds with other animals and share a house harmoniously. Of course, like all breeds, the extent to which Maltipoos get along with other pets will depend on training, socialization and the individual's temperament.
Training a Maltipoo requires patience, consistency and plenty of positive reinforcement. Begin by setting aside a designated time once a week for your training session and stick with it – this will help establish a routine for your Maltipoo. In terms of teaching commands, start off with the basics sit and stay will be both easy entries into the training process. During these sessions, establish clear rewards and consequences; the reward should come in the form of lots of treats and praise.
