Maltipoos are a popular, small breed dog. A hybrid of Maltese and Poodle, they are loyal, friendly, and active pooches. On average, they weigh between 5-20 pounds and come in a variety of colors, including white, tan, black, apricot, and cream. For the most part, Maltipoos get along well with people and other pets. They possess a high intelligence level, making them eager learners and relatively easy to train, with positive reinforcement. They remain relatively active and playful as adults.
Maltipoos, a mix between Maltese and Poodle breeds, can indeed be considered hypoallergenic. While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, the Maltipoo's low-shedding, hypoallergenic coat does a great job keeping allergens at bay. Their hybrid coat consists of the Poodle’s silky fur mixed with the Maltese’s silvery undercoat, providing a hypoallergenic layer of insulation from allergens.
A Maltipoo is an extremely popular mixed breed, comprised of a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. It is important to understand that each Maltipoo is unique and may have different nutritional needs. Generally, you should feed your Maltipoo a nutrient-rich, high-quality dog food designed for small breeds. You may elect to feed your dog a wet or canned food in addition to dry kibbles. If desired, you can mix and match dry and wet foods as a way to provide nutritional variety.
Before getting a Maltipoo, you should purchase some necessary items for your pup. You should buy a collar and ID tag, a bed, a crate for housebreaking, puppy treats and food, a brush and shampoo, food and water bowls, and some toys for playtime. Additionally, it is always a good idea to have a first aid kit, a flea and tick preventative, a toothbrush and toothpaste, nail clippers, and a sponge for keeping your pup's ears clean.
Maltipoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from the teacup and toy classifications which measure no more than 10 inches in height and 4 to 6 pounds in weight, to the small standard Maltipoo classification which usually measures around 10 to 14 inches tall and 8 to 15 pounds heavy. There is also the large standard Maltipoo which is usually anywhere from 14 to 18 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 15 to 20 pounds.
