Questions & Answers
A Maltipoo is a hybrid dog breed that is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle. Usually, the Maltipoo is 9-14 inches in height and weighs between 6-20 pounds. They come in a variety of coat colors with white, cream, apricot, brown and black being popular. Maltipoos may have a longer coat or a wavy, curly, or straight coat. These dogs are generally very perceptive, lively, smart, and usually friendly.
Whether or not you experience allergic reactions to Maltipoos depends on the individual. Some people find that certain pets may cause an allergic reaction, but others do not. If you are unsure whether or not you will have a reaction, it may be best to consult with an allergist and, possibly, spend some time around a Maltipoo. Additionally, Maltipoos are hypoallergenic compared to many other breeds, however, no breed can be completely hypoallergenic as all animals produce dander.
Maltipoos are a small, fluffy breed of dog that require special care. It is important to pay attention to what you are feeding your Maltipoo because their small stomachs and sensitive digestive systems can react adversely to certain foods. To avoid any health issues, some foods should be avoided, such as rawhide, bones, onions, chocolate, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and anything with too much sugar or fat. You should also avoid feeding your Maltipoo regular kibble or canned food meant for large breed dogs because of the added fat and calories.
To ensure your new Maltipoo is safe and happy in its home, it's important to properly prepare. First, pet-proof your home by making sure there are no objects dogs can chew on, such as books, phone cords, toys, and shoes; remove any potential hazardous items, such as toxic cleaning products, plastic bags, medications, and string; and block off access to any potentially dangerous areas like outdoor staircases. Second, provide a dedicated area where your Maltipoo can relax, such as a soft bed, a crate, and/or a few favorite toys.
Maltipoos are a hybrid breed of toy poodle and Maltese, originally bred to be companion animals. While there is no standard size, the breed tends to range from small to medium in size. Fully grown, Maltipoos generally reach heights between six to fourteen inches and an average weight of three to fourteen pounds. On the small side, these dogs can top out at about six inches tall and three pounds. On the other end of the size spectrum, a Maltipoo at full growth can stand as tall as fourteen inches and weigh up to fourteen pounds.
Walking your Maltipoo is an important part of providing not only physical but mental stimulation. How much exercise is appropriate really depends on the age of your individual pup and their general level of health. It is best to start with shorter walks and gradually work up, as your Maltipoo gets used to the activity. As a general guideline, puppies that are 1-3 years of age should get roughly 30 minutes of walking each day, while adult Maltipoos that are 4 years and over should get about 40-60 minutes per day (with breaks in between if necessary).
Maltipoos are popular among first-time owners due to their small size, gentle demeanor, and hypoallergenic coat. Not only do they have unique personalities that can fit well with most individuals, but they are relatively easy to train and maintain. Maltipoos are also known to be very sociable, good-natured dogs which can help build a strong, positive relationship between the owner and the pup. On top of that, they have low exercise and grooming needs which makes them a great dog to look after even if the owner has a busy lifestyle.
Maltipoos have a reputation for being remarkably intelligent. As a crossbreed of the Poodle and Maltese breeds, Maltipoos possess an inherent intelligence as a result of the parent breeds' known smarts. With proper socialization, training, and general life experiences, Maltipoos can develop their natural intelligence into strong problem-solving abilities and strong bond with their owners. Additionally, due to the Poodle side of their genetics, Maltipoos have the tendency to pick up tricks faster than many other breed dogs.
