Questions & Answers
A Maltipoo is a designer breed of dog that is a combination of a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. They often share characteristics of both breeds, including a beautiful hypoallergenic coat, loving and cuddly temperament, and intelligence. Maltipoos are also known to have a calm and laid-back demeanor and can be great companions. They typically weigh between five and twenty pounds and have the best qualities from both of their parent breeds. These dogs are also extremely affectionate and loyal and make great family pets.
The Maltipoo coat can vary greatly depending on the parents' genetics. Generally, they have a soft, fluffy coat that is easy to take care of. Some Maltipoos might be high shedders if they take after their Poodle parent with a more coarse and thick coat, but many Maltipoos have a low to non-shedding coat. The coat is usually wavy or loose curls, though some can have straight hair too. Maltipoo coat colors range from white, black, cream, yellow, brown, apricot, red, and a mix of colors.
Maltipoos are a small breed of crossbred dogs that result from a mix of a Maltese and a Toy Poodle, so their diet should be carefully monitored. Additionally, it is always important to consult with your veterinarian about what your pet should eat. Unfortunately, there are food items that should never be fed to a Maltipoo in order for them to stay healthy and happy. These include chocolate, alcohol, onions, scallions, garlic and other foods with a high fat content as these can be hard for them to digest and potentially even cause obesity.
Preparing your home for a new Maltipoo is an important step in ensuring that your pet has a safe environment where they feel comfortable and secure. Before you bring your pup home, it's a good idea to invest in essential supplies such as an appropriate-sized crate, bedding, a bed, leash, collar, food and water bowls, grooming supplies, toys, and treats.
No, Maltipoos are not considered big dogs. The Maltipoo is a hybrid dog breed that is a mix of the Maltese and Poodle breeds. Since both of these parent breeds are on the small side, the Maltipoo usually does not grow to be more than 12-15 inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 5-20 pounds when full grown. Therefore, they are definitely a small breed, and typically would not be considered "big.
Maltipoos are a mix of the Miniature Poodle and Maltese breeds, and are generally considered active and playful dogs. An adult Maltipoo typically weighs between 5 and 20 pounds, depending on the size of their parents. They often prefer interacting with humans over playing with other animals, and can easily be a part of daily activities. Maltipoos typically require regular playtime, walks, and mental stimulation to help them stay entertained and happy.
Maltipoos often get along very well with kids! They are considered to be people-oriented and rather social dogs that are typically easy to train. Maltipoos are not aggressive and are known to form a strong bond with their owners. As their temperaments are gentle and patient, they can be great companion animals for kids. Additionally, Maltipoos are usually fairly small in size which makes them easier to handle in comparison to other dogs. It is important to socialize them with kids from a young age to ensure positive interactions.
The amount of minutes you need to train Maltipoos per day depends on the age of the Maltipoo and your individual training goals. Generally though, a good rule of thumb is to provide your Maltipoo with about 20 minutes of active training a day, on top of regular exercise. Remember, when you train your Maltipoo it's important to have patience and positive reinforcement, along with a few rewards. These rewards should be given sporadically, at the end of a successful training session.
