Maltipoos are a cross breed of a Maltese and a Miniature or Toy Poodle. They are an overall very intelligent, low-shedding, and hypoallergenic breed. Care should be taken with their long coats, as regular brushing and trimming is important to keep them looking their best. Maltipoos usually have an excellent temperament and get along well with both children and other animals. They can also often times be trained to use pee pads inside the house, reducing the need to take them outside multiple times for potty breaks.
A Maltipoo coat is usually wavy and soft, with non-shedding hair. They have a range of colors that can include solid black, white, apricot, silver, and even brown. When cared for properly, the Maltipoo coat can be quite long and thick. It's important to remember that regular brushing is required to keep the hair from matting and knotting, as well as help distribute natural body oils throughout the coat. Maltipoos require regular professional grooming every 4-6 weeks depending on the individual dog's hair type.
Maltipoos are no different than most other small, companion breed dogs in that they need a good, complete diet in order to remain healthy. Maltipoos do well on high-quality dry dog food and should be fed several meals throughout the day in two to four smaller portions. A diet of high protein and quality carbohydrates is best. Fresh vegetables, grains, and fruits also make great supplements to their normal diet. Chewing treats are great for helping keep their teeth clean, while occasional table scraps in moderation will help keep their taste buds entertained.
