Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are one of the most popular hybrid dog breeds, and they have a lot of unique qualities that make them interesting! They have a mix of both parent breeds' most desirable characteristics; making them one of the most clever, loyal, and loving pet companion choices out there. Maltipoos also tend to have a fuzzy, curly coat that doesn't shed much at all, making them a great addition for those with pet allergies.
Generally speaking, Maltipoos have low to moderate shedding, and many owners and breeders have claimed that they are hypoallergenic. While there is no certainty that all individuals of this breed are hypoallergenic, their wavy or curly coats have been known to not allow the shedding of fur and dander, which are common causes of allergies in humans. Additionally, their small size further limits the amount of dander and other debris they create and thus reduces the potential for allergies.
Maltipoos are a hybrid breed of small dogs that are a mix between a Maltese and a Poodle. Generally, when considering their diet, Maltipoos should be fed a high-quality light or moderate-calorie dry kibble that is formulated for small dogs. Since these dogs are prone to obesity, they should be given monitored portion sizes to ensure they don't eat too much. Wet foods should not be used as they are high in calories, and Maltipoos may not chew their food properly and may be prone to choking or digestive trouble.
Yes, Maltipoos do have some special requirements. This breed is a combination of Mand and Poodle, and so shares traits from both: they need regular brushing and grooming in order to keep their fur healthy and manageable. Maltipoos also need exercise, preferably outdoors, to stay engaged and healthy. Since they are a crossbreed, they can be predisposed to certain health issues, such as hip dysplasia and epilepsy, so monitoring their health and staying up to date on preventative care and vaccinations should be a priority.
Maltipoos are not considered to be big dogs. This is an adorable, small-sized breed of dog that is created by cross-breeding a Maltese Terrier with a Toy or Miniature Poodle. This hybrid breed typically stands between 8 and 14 inches in height and generally weighs between 4 and 20 pounds. Being a smaller breed, Maltipoos tend to require less exercise than larger breeds, making them ideal for smaller living spaces and/or as travel companions. On the other hand, Maltipoos can still be active, responsive, and independent, making them delightful and loving pets.
Maltipoos are an energetic breed of hybrid dog. This mix makes them uniquely active and playful. These dogs have an impulse to stay on the move and can benefit greatly from having an activity or job to do. Even with short walks and playtime, they tend to need a few more opportunities to burn off energy throughout the day than the average companion dog. That said, Maltipoos tend to be very easy to train and can fit into almost any size household or lifestyle if given the opportunity to express their energy on a regular basis.
Generally speaking, Maltipoos get along well with other pets in the home. They have an easy going, friendly temperament, which is a great quality for being around other animals. They are likely to form a strong bond with their owners, as well as any other pets in the house--especially if they are exposed to them since they are a puppy. Socialization at an early age is important to ensure a peaceful, harmonious relationship between the pet and its owners and between the pet and its other animal playmates.
