Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a designer hybrid breed, which means they are a combination of two other breeds—the Miniature Poodle and the Maltese. They are small dogs, usually weighing anywhere from 4 to 20 pounds, and are highly sought after for their playful and affectionate personalities. They are gentle, loyal, and intelligent and do well with all family members. Generally, they do not bark excessively and can be adapted to an owners schedule if properly trained. This breed is hypoallergenic and does not need much grooming since the hair is short and fine.
Managing allergies with Maltipoos requires diligence and care. Firstly, it is important to recognize the signs of allergies, such as coughing, sneezing, or itchy eyes. If any of these arise, it is important to keep the Maltipoo away from the potential allergens, including dust, pollen, grass, or foods like wheat. Additionally, baths should be given weekly to help reduce allergens gathered from the outdoors, and to keep the Maltipoo's coat clean.
Maltipoos are a small hybrid breed of dogs which require a specialized diet. It's important to not feed your Maltipoo any food that can be dangerous or unhealthy for them. Human-foods such as onions, garlic, chocolate, and food with caffeine should all be avoided. Foods high in fat, sugar, and salt should also not be given to a Maltipoo. Many human foods are too rich or too salty for dogs, and can adversely affect your Maltipoo's digestion.
Preparing for your new Maltipoo should start with doing research. Learn all about the breed, their needs, and the commitment involved in becoming a pet parent. Before your Maltipoo arrives, make sure to create a safe and comfortable space with the proper bedding, toys, food, dishes, and other supplies needed for their wellbeing. An introduction to basic commands and techniques such as potty-training can also help create structure and a healthy relationship with your pet right off the bat.
The size of your Maltipoo puppy depends largely upon the size of its parents. A Maltipoo may be anywhere from 5-20 pounds when full grown, depending on the genes inherited from its parents. Typically, a Maltipoo's size is determined between 6-10 weeks of age. If you would like to know a more precise answer, it is best to speak with a prior owner or breeder as they may be able to offer you more specific information.
It is important to walk your Maltipoo for at least 15 minutes per day, but ideally you should aim for 30 to 45 minutes. This exercise not only helps your pup stay physically fit, but it also provides much-needed mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Walks can be broken up into multiple sessions throughout the day to make it easier to fit into your lifestyle. With the proper amount of exercise, your Maltipoo will be healthier and you'll have a happier, more active companion!
Maltipoos are an excellent pet choice for families with children! Due to their size and intelligence, these dogs are great companions for kids of all ages. Maltipoos are usually energetic yet gentle, providing lots of fun and affection to their owners. They are known to be incredibly loyal, loving, and protective of their family. Furthermore, Maltipoos are easy to train and less prone to developing negative behaviors. They tend to socialize very well and are friendly with other animals and people.
Training your Maltipoo requires patience and a positive attitude. Start by introducing your pup to basic commands like, "sit" and "stay". Reward your pup with treats after successful obedience. If they don't obey the first time, remain patient and try again. To build your pup's trust, a consistent routine is recommended. Have potty breaks outside at the same time every day and practice obedience commands shortly after. Positive reinforcement is key make sure to praise your pup when they successfully obey a command. As they become more attuned to the commands, increase the difficulty and duration.
