Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are known to be one of the most loving and cuddly toy breeds of dogs. What makes them so interesting is their intelligence, willingness to please, trainability, and playfulness. A unique trait they possess is their loyalty to their families; they are known to form strong bonds of attachment with their owners. Maltipoos also make great watchdogs, sounding off a bark whenever someone new is in their area. Aside from their affectionate nature, they also have a lot of energy which can make them amusing companions.
Maltipoos are often referred to as "non-shedding" or "hypoallergenic" due to their low shedding coats. This breed is a Poodle and Maltese hybrid, which is why Maltipoos typically have a low shedding coat that does not require frequent grooming. However, Maltipoos will still shed, but the hair that is lost is mostly found in the brush and not on furniture and clothing. The amount of shedding will depend on the individual dog and how much grooming is done to the coat.
It is generally not advisable to feed Maltipoos anything that is not specifically meant for dogs. Human food, such as sweets and chocolate, can be toxic for dogs and can cause serious health implications. Also, table scraps and garlic, although tasty to some dogs, are not recommended to be fed to Maltipoos due to their smaller size and sensitive systems. Furthermore, foods that contain a lot of salt, sugar, and fat should also be avoided because these can cause weight gain, as well as creating a number of health risks.
Maltipoo's are among the most popular of the hybrid, designer dog breeds and they typically have a moderate amount of special requirements. Hence, it is important to take into account the traits of both the Maltese and Poodle which make up the Maltipoo when considering if they are right for your home. Generally, Maltipoo's are lower maintenance than purebred dogs, but they do have some needs. For instance, they require a lot of companionship, exercise and mental stimulation in order to stay physically and mentally healthy.
Maltipoos can come in various sizes, from a toy Maltipoo, which usually weighs between 4 and 6 lbs, to a mini Maltipoo, which usually ranges from 6 to 9 lbs. A standard Maltipoo typically weighs 9 to 16 lbs, but depending on the parents' size, they may weigh more or less. These measurements and weights can vary, so it's important to read the pedigree of your Maltipoo or inquire with the breeder about the size before purchase.
It is recommended to walk your Maltipoo at least once a day for anywhere between 15–30 minutes. To allow your Maltipoo to get the full benefits of a good foot exercise, you may want to split the walking time into two sessions of 10–15 minutes each. This may also help avoid over-exertion in your Maltipoo. Remember that the key to a healthy and active Maltipoo is to get them the regular exercise and fresh air that they need.
Yes, Maltipoos are good with kids! This hybrid dog breed is known for its sweet nature, friendly and affectionate personality. Maltipoos have a wonderfully gentle and loyal temperament, making them a great fit for households with children. These dogs tend to be tolerant of all family members, including children, and can easily be trained with consistent and positive reinforcement. Maltipoos have a lot of energy and can happily play for hours with children of all ages, provided they're given plenty of exercise, both physical and mental.
Training a Maltipoo requires dedication and patience. Generally, it's ideal to devote at least 20-30 minutes per day to training your pup. However, depending on the age and stage of learning, you may need to increase or reduce the amount of time. To maximize the results and keep your pup motivated, make sure to keep the training sessions short, positive, and engaging with plenty of treats and positive reinforcement like verbal praise and petting. It can be a great idea to mix in activities that are more fun for both you and your pup!
