Maltipoos are truly special dogs they combine the intelligence of a Poodle with the unconditional, loving nature of a Maltese. Like their purebred parents, Maltipoos don't shed much, making them an ideal pet for those with allergies. They are also very low maintenance and require only minimal grooming. Not only that, but because Maltipoos are so small usually between 4-15 pounds they don't take up much space, which is great for city living. They also have long lifespans of around 10-14 years.
Maltipoos are often thought to be hypoallergenic because of their hybrid Poodle-Maltese lineage. While their curly coats and lack of shedding are more favorable to allergy-sufferers, they are not hypoallergenic. This is because skin and saliva allergens, or allergy-causing proteins, can still be present. Also, a Maltipoo’s coat may be more likely to carry other allergens, such as those from outdoor plants and animals.
As a Maltipoo owner, you should provide a balanced diet to ensure your pup is receiving the essential nutrients for optimum health. A high-quality, age-appropriate dry dog food is the best foundation for your Maltipoo's diet. Be sure to add a variety of whole-foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and eggs in moderation for additional nutrition.
