Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a crossbreed of the Maltese and Toy/Miniature Poodle, making them a Designer breed. They are considered to be part of the Toy group, leaving them very small in size and light in weight. Maltipoos, depending on their particular parents, can inherit coats that can be silky and wavy, almost resembling the look of a true Poodle. As a Toy breed, they tend to have a bit more energy and can usually keep up with their owners.
Maltipoos, a mix between a Maltese and a Poodle, have the desirable hypoallergenic quality since both parent breeds are considered hypoallergenic. In general, Maltipoos have an extremely low or non-shedding coat that is soft, light and gentle to the touch, making them an excellent choice for allergy sufferers. Even though their hair may not trigger allergies, due to their pet dander, they may still produce allergens from their saliva or skin.
It is important to ensure that you feed your Maltipoo the right type of food that is specifically formulated for small breed dogs. Things like chocolate, fruit, and certain nuts should be avoided because they contain too high of levels of sugar and fat. Additionally, it is important to not give them bones, especially those from pork, poultry, and other animals that are prone to splinter. It is important to also avoid giving them any table scraps as most human food contains too high of sodium levels or other ingredients that can be toxic for them.
Before bringing your Maltipoo home, it's important to ensure that your home is a comfortable and safe environment. First, set up their designated area with items such as a bed, food/water bowls, and toys. It's best to set these up a couple days in advance so your pup can smell and explore in their new spot. Afterwards, purchase any necessary grooming items (i.e. shampoo, nail clippers, brush, etc). You'll also want to make sure you puppy proof your home.
Maltipoos are a hybrid breed, a mix between Maltese and Toy or Miniature Poodle. As hybrid breeds, size can vary depending on the individual genetic makeup. They typically range from 4 to 14 pounds, measuring approximately 8 14 inches from the shoulder to the ground and 10 15 inches in length. Generally, they don't reach anywhere near the size of their parent breeds. Maltipoos tend to look most like a mixture of both breeds, with a long, fluffy coat that stays soft and silky throughout their lives.
Maltipoos, a mix of Maltese and Poodle, make wonderful active companions. These small dogs don't need a lot of vigorous exercise, but can benefit from moderate activity. They are an intelligent breed with a zest for life and a playful nature, which makes them an excellent choice for families or individuals looking for an active pup. Regular walks, short hikes, playtime, and trips to the dog park are all wonderful activities a Maltipoo would thoroughly enjoy.
Maltipoos are a great choice when it comes to family dogs! They are known for being both friendly and intelligent, making them a natural as a companion for adults and children alike. Maltipoos are usually very eager to please, meaning they are active learners and quick to pick up commands. Their small size makes them suitable for apartment living, and their friendly, outgoing nature makes them a great companion for conversations, walks, or snuggles on the couch. Maltipoos get along well with other animals and children, and their small size makes them safe around even small children.
The amount of time you should spend training your Maltipoo every day will depend on your individual situation and the age, size, and temperament of your pup. Generally speaking, young pups will need shorter, more frequent training sessions while older pups will have longer attention spans and can handle longer training sessions. Regardless of the length of the session, plan to set up regular training sessions every day for your Maltipoo. This will be the key to teaching them commands and tricks while also developing their focus and discipline. A great amount of time to shoot for would be around 20 minutes a day.
