Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a cross-bred designer dog, made up of a combination of Maltese and Toy Poodle breeds. This delightful hybrid is known for its affectionate, loyal and smart personality. Maltipoos make wonderful loyal family pets, and have become popular over recent years due to their unique look and loyal, loving nature. They come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 8 to 18 pounds. Maltipoos have a lifespan of 12-15 years and require friendly socialization from a young age to help their development.
Maltipoos are generally considered to be non-shedding dogs, as the breed is a hybrid of the Maltese and Poodle breeds, both of which have coats that are naturally not prone to shedding. Maltipoos tend to have very low to no shedding coats due to their mix of the two lines. While Maltipoos are not completely hypoallergenic, meaning they may still cause some allergic reactions in adults or children, they do tend to be much better than other dogs in this regard.
Maltipoos are very small dogs with delicate digestive systems, so it is important to be careful with what you feed them. They should not consume people food, treats, candy, or bones of any kind, as these can be difficult for them to digest and even dangerous if they choke on them. Avoid giving them table scraps, chips, rawhide, sugary snacks, and other junk foods as these can cause dental and weight problems. Milk and dairy foods can also give Maltipoos upset stomachs, so try to avoid those as well.
Before getting a Maltipoo, there are some essentials that you should purchase to make sure your pup feels comfortable in its new home. Start with the basics like a collar, leash, and tags with your contact information in case the pup ever gets lost. A good quality crate can also provide security and help with potty training. Toys can also serve as an essential to keep the pup entertained and distracted from rubbing up against furniture or other items you don't want chewed up. Consider investing in a water dispenser, food containers, and high-quality food specifically for small dogs.
Maltipoos are a relatively small breed of dog, and some may reach a modest size of around 15-20 pounds, although some could be larger. While an individual Maltipoo might not qualify as a big dog, their small size tends to make it difficult to accurately classify them as a small dog too. Ultimately, it depends on the size of the specific dog and can vary greatly.
It is recommended that a Maltipoo should get about thirty minutes of exercise per day, including walking. To keep your pup healthy, it should consist of both physical and mental stimulation. Walking is a great way to accomplish both, and it can help keep your pup's weight in check. Depending on your pup's age, size, and energy level, the recommended amount of daily walking can vary. Ideally, a Maltipoo should get at least thirty minutes of exercise per day, spaced out throughout the day if possible.
Absolutely! Maltipoos are great family pets and usually have a wonderful, playful nature around children. They are incredibly loving and affectionate animals, so they will often try their best to please their owners and be gentle companions for any children in the family. Maltipoos are also intelligent, so they can be fairly easily trained to behave appropriately around kids, which adds to their appeal as a family pet. Additionally, their small size means they can fit into smaller places and can often be perfect playmates for children.
Training a Maltipoo, or any other breed of dog, should start with focusing on positive reinforcement. This means that you reinforce the behavior you like, by providing treats or toys, so the dog learns that doing the desired behavior leads to a reward. Establish a routine for your Maltipoo; this could involve regular walks, trips to the park, obedience training, etc. Make sure to keep training sessions short and fun to keep them interested in learning.
