Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a popular mixed breed of dog that is created by crossing a Maltese with a Poodle. They usually come in shades of white, cream, and apricot and boast an exceptionally soft and fluffy coat. Maltipoos tend to be small in size, typically standing between 8 to 14 inches in height and weighing 8 to 15 pounds. They are sweet, gentle, and intelligent, making them wonderful family companions. They are relatively easy to train, enjoying obedience, agility, and other types of training.
Maltipoos are known for their beautiful, curly coats that come in a range of colors, from white to black and nearly any combination in between. They may also have a variety of markings and patterns, such as parti, sable, and phantom. Their coat is a combination of their two parent breeds, the Maltese and the Toy or Miniature Poodle, so it can vary depending on which gene traits they inherited. Generally, Maltipoos will have a soft, silky, and wavy coat that may be either fleece or cotton textured.
Depending on their age, your Maltipoo may need different types of food. For young Maltipoos, it's best to give them a specially formulated puppy food which is rich in quality proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats, to help them grow strong and healthy. As they get older, you can switch to a more complete and balanced adult dog food. Your vet may also suggest a senior formula if your Maltipoo reaches the ripe old age of 9.
Before bringing home a new Maltipoo, it's important to prepare your home accordingly. This includes providing comfortable and secure places for your dog to sleep and relax, such as a bed or kennel. Make any necessary changes to your home to ensure it is safe for your pup, such as blocking off any areas with wires, cords, or furniture that your pup could become entangled in. You will also want to stock up on important supplies like dog food, grooming tools, leash, toys, and treats.
Maltipoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small to large. Depending on the breeder, the average Maltipoos can grow to be between 4-14 pounds when full grown. Generally, they are known to be categorized by small (teacup or toy), medium, or standard size. Small Maltipoos fall into the toy or teacup categories, weighing no more than 4 pounds. The medium size Maltipoos are the most popular and typically weigh anywhere from 5-10 pounds.
Maltipoos are an active breed, so they should be provided with enough exercise to keep them happy and healthy. They should get at least 30-60 minutes of structured exercise, such as walks or hikes, each day. In addition to structured exercise, it's also important for Maltipoos to have access to plenty of playtime, either with toys or with you. This is important to allow them to burn off extra energy and stay mentally stimulated. If possible, it's also beneficial to take your Maltipoo to play in a safe, open area at least a few times each week.
Maltipoos are known for their outgoing personalities, so yes, they are generally a great breed for families with kids. They are incredibly friendly, affectionate, and gentle with people of all ages. Maltipoos' intelligence and energy make them easy to train and a great companion for children. Having a Maltipoo in your house will bring play and laughter and they are an active, outgoing breed that will make a great companion for children. On top of this, they typically have very silky coats which makes them incredibly soft to the touch, which many children find particularly endearing.
Training Maltipoos is a great way to keep them healthy and happy, and the amount of time they should be trained per day depends on their individual needs. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to spend at least 15 to 20 minutes per day on repetitive training activities which could include verbal commands, hand signals, and tricks as well as an hour of physical activities such as walking, playing fetch, or swimming. With the combination of physical and mental activities, it's recommended that a minimum of a half an hour to an hour be devoted to training your Maltipoo per day.
