Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are known for being a cross between a Poodle and a Maltese, resulting in an incredibly loyal, loving, and energetic companion that can brighten your day. Because of their intelligence, Maltipoos are fairly easy to train and make great watch dogs. They do best in homes with plenty of attention and exercise. Generally, Maltipoos tend to stay small and don’t need as much grooming as other breeds. Plus, they’re hypoallergenic, so they can make great companions for owners with allergies.
It's not possible to provide a definitive answer as to whether Maltipoos will cause you to have allergies; however, it is possible to minimize the risk. Most potential allergens from dogs will come from dander and saliva, and Maltipoos have a low-shedding coat, which means they have less dander than some other breeds. Additionally, the Maltipoo is a hypoallergenic breed, which means their hair is less likely to induce an allergic reaction. Keeping on top of regular grooming and brushing is important to help reduce any potential allergens.
You should look to feed your Maltipoo a nutritious and balanced diet that meets all of its health needs. Using a combination of wet and dry foods or treats is highly recommended to ensure your pup is getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs. Your Maltipoo's food should be made up of high quality ingredients, such as easily digestible proteins, fats, complex carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Treats should also favoured and given in moderation. Chewing treats that are starch/cereal-free and grain/gluten-free are often the best option.
Preparing for a new Maltipoo is exciting! It's important to research the breed to make sure you understand the needs and care for this pup. Start by ensuring that you have appropriate pet supplies such as food and water dishes, bedding, a crate, leash and collar, and toys. Gather information about their dietary needs, grooming schedule, and any health issues they may be prone to. Develop a potty training routine and look into local pet-friendly places. Socialize your pup carefully and early if possible by scheduling puppy play dates or visiting local puppy classes.
Maltipoos come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small to large. As a cross between a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle, they typically weigh between 3-15 pounds. Their height can range between 8-14 inches. The size of a Maltipoo is determined by the size of the parent breeds, but also by the breeder’s intent. Breeding for larger or smaller Maltipoos can make one look bigger or smaller than another, even though they are technically the same size.
It is important to ensure your Maltipoo is getting enough exercise for optimal health. The amount of walking you should give your Maltipoo depends on their age and overall health, but at minimum, they should get a minimum of 30 minutes of walking a day. If you have a younger, healthy Maltipoo, then you should consider increasing the amount of time you spend walking them to an hour each day. This will give your pup sufficient exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of quality time to bond.
Maltipoos typically have sweet and friendly dispositions, so they usually get along well with children. These intelligent pups can form strong bonds with both humans and other animals, and they often crave the attention of their parents. That said, every pup is different and some may require more patience and training to ensure a smooth, safe, and enjoyable interaction. Proper socialization from an early age is also important, as it helps Maltipoos become more comfortable around children. overall, Maltipoos can become wonderful friends to kids and a great addition to a family.
The amount of time needed to train Maltipoos each day largely depends on the goals you have set for them. Generally speaking, a minimum of 15 minutes per day devoted to training is recommended. That said, the more time you can commit to training your Maltipoo, the better with upwards of 30 minutes of focused and structured training every day being ideal. Moreover, it’s also important to consistently provide mental stimulation for your Maltipoo in between training sessions too, as this can help to keep them attentive and motivated.
