Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a hybrid breed of dogs that combine the Maltese and Poodle breeds. They are known for their fluffy, curly coats, making them a popular choice for those looking for a pet Pooch. Aside from their cuddly good looks, Maltipoos are also incredibly friendly and make excellent companion animals. In fact, they are known to bond closely with their owners and love being around people. One interesting fact about this breed is that they have few to no genetic health issues, making them a great pick for those looking for a long-term, low maintenance pet.
Generally speaking, Maltipoos are considered to be non-shedding -a plus for those who may be allergic to dogs, or who don't want dog hair everywhere! While Maltipoo's may shed just a bit in comparison to some other breeds, when properly groomed and cared for, the joy that a Maltipoo puppy brings is far greater than the little bit of shedding.
As a vulnerable breed with a small digestive system, Maltipoos should not be given foods that may be harmful to their health. Generally, human foods such as onions, garlic, grapes and alcohol should be avoided, as they can cause great digestive or even physical distress to your Maltipoo. High-fat and high-sugar foods should also be avoided, as they can cause weight issues or even contribute to the onset of diabetes for a Maltipoo. Finally, raw eggs or raw meat should never be fed to a Maltipoo, as these can both cause disease or worse.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Maltipoo requires a commitment to providing them with the best loving care and training possible. To start, research the breed so you have a better understanding of their needs and limitations. Visit your veterinarian to get your puppy set up with a wellness plan and have their initial vaccinations. Make sure to create a safe, puppy-proof environment by monitoring what is around your puppy at all times. Create a schedule that includes feeding times, potty breaks, playtime, and grooming. In addition, provide your Maltipoo with mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training.
It is difficult to say exactly how large your Maltipoo puppy will be; however, Maltipoo puppies typically reach mature heights of 8-14 inches and may weigh between 6-20 pounds. Usually, they are considered a "toy"-sized breed, and their size will depend on the genes inherited from their parents. As they reach maturity, their size may be affected by other things such as diet, exercise and overall health. All Maltipoos have an average active lifestyle, and regular exercise, both indoors and outdoors, is recommended.
The amount of time you should walk your Maltipoo each day will vary depending on their age, overall health, and activity level. Generally speaking, young puppies and senior dogs require shorter walks, while adult Maltipoos that are healthy and active can benefit from approximately 20-30 minutes of walking every day. However, if you have the time and your dog is up for it, longer daily walks can provide extra stimulation and energy release which can have a positive effect on their mental and physical well-being.
Maltipoos are incredibly friendly and usually get along great with kids! They are small, energetic, and typically respond positively to the attention and energy that comes from playing with kids. Maltipoos crave interaction and will often show affection towards people; however, they can be a bit over-eager in their attempts to please, so it is important that kids are taught how to interact with them in a respectful manner. Maltipoos are excellent companions and make wonderful family pets!
How much time should you dedicate to your Maltipoo’s daily training? All puppies benefit from a structured training routine and Maltipoos are no different. To ensure optimal development, plan on 40-60 minutes of training each day for your Maltipoo. This time should be divided into shorter, focused sessions. Start by teaching your Maltipoo basic commands such as sit, stay, down and come then move on to more advanced training as your dog progresses. Other activities such as playing fetch, agility courses, and walks can also be incorporated into your pup's daily routine.
