A Maltipoo is a designer breed of dog that was created by crossing a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. This small breed of dog boasts a unique blend of characteristics from both parents, including intelligence, non-shedding and hypoallergenic coats, and a loving and people-oriented temperament. Due to its size, Maltipoos typically do well living in apartments or smaller dwellings, as they only grow to a maximum of 15 pounds. They can also be quite stubborn at times and require a fair amount of exercise and proper socialization.
Maltipoos are considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic dogs, thanks to the combination of their hypoallergenic parents – the Maltese and Toy Poodle. Maltese sheds very little, so the mix with the Poodle, which itself is hypoallergenic, makes for a wonderful choice for those with allergies. Maltipoos produce a significantly lower amount of dander and shed less than most other breeds, making them a much better fit for those with allergies.
Maltipoos are a relatively small and delicate breed, so it's important to carefully consider what you feed them. Foods that are high in fat, such as fatty cuts of meat, as well as dairy products and deep-fried foods, should be avoided as much as possible.
