Questions & Answers
Maltipoos are a unique breed of dog which offers owners a fun-loving and intelligent companion. They are a cross between a Maltese and a Toy Poodle, resulting in an incredibly smart and playful hybrid that loves to be around its family. What makes Maltipoos so interesting is their array of coat patterns and colors, and their wide range in size; some Maltipoos grow to be as small as five pounds while others remain small but can weigh up to twenty.
The answer to whether or not a Maltipoo will cause you to have allergies is not so straightforward. A Maltipoo is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle, so it will depend on which breed you are more sensitive to. Both Maltese and Poodle are considered hypoallergenic, but reactions to allergens can vary from person to person. Additionally, dogs produce allergens regardless of the breed, which can contribute to symptoms. The best way to determine if you will be allergic to a Maltipoo is to visit with one and see how you react.
Maltipoos, like all small dog breeds, should not be fed certain items. Common foods that may cause an upset stomach, increased risk of pancreatitis, or even worse conditions are grapes, avocados, chocolate, onion, garlic, or anything with a high sugar content or lots of processed carbs. In addition to the foods listed above, Maltipoos should also not be fed into other small pieces of food such as raisins, candy, cookies, etc., as they may get stuck in their throat and cause choking.
Yes, Maltipoos do have their own unique needs that are important to consider when deciding if this breed is the right choice. Maltipoos are generally a low-shedding breed, however, regular grooming is advised to ensure their coats remain healthy and attractive. Daily brushing is strongly recommended, and regular visits to a professional groomer every several months is recommended. In addition to regular grooming, Maltipoos also need plenty of daily exercise, mental stimulation, and quality time with their humans. Given the right environment and care, Maltipoos can live long, happy, and healthy lives.
Maltipoos are an adorably small breed of dog, often described as a great companion for a single person or a small family. Maltipoo sizes range from tiny toy size (under 5 pounds) to teacup size (5-7 pounds). On average, however, full grown Maltipoos generally range anywhere from 5-15 pounds depending on which two of the parent breeds they come from. As a caveat, Toy and Teacup Maltipoos are not recognized by the American Kennel Club as official breeds.
Maltipoos, with their hybridized backgrounds of Maltese and Poodle, often find themselves among the list of the most active breeds of dogs. With their lovely personalities, Maltipoos always love to stay involved in different activities. Whether that's through daily walks or vigorous playtime, these dogs enjoy being a part of the action. That said, the amount of playtime and exercise needed for Maltipoos depends greatly on their age, weight, and size, but they will generally need more than the typical couch-potato pup.
Maltipoos are known to be a great choice for families. They are a very loyal and affectionate breed and have a great temperament. They are great with children and tend to be good with other pets. They are generally low-maintenance in terms of care and grooming, so they make an ideal family pet. They are loving, curious, and intelligent, which means they can be taught basic obedience commands and how to behave in many social settings. The Maltipoo tends to enjoy being active and spending time with their people, so they are a great companion for active families.
Maltipoos are often considered to be highly intelligent dogs due to their parent breed traits Maltese and Poodle. They are highly trainable, social, and loyal, developing strong bonds with their owners. Those who own Maltipoos often find that they are able to learn new commands and behaviors quickly and remember those behaviors over time. Additionally, they are known to demonstrate problem-solving abilities, understanding how to act in specific scenarios with their humans. With the proper training and reinforcement, Maltipoos can make fantastic companions and willing participants in activities, such as agility or dock diving.
