Maltipoos are a relatively new type of designer dog, created by crossing a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. While not recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by the ACA, or American Canine Hybrid Club. In terms of size they typically measure between 8 and 14 inches at the shoulder and weight between 6 and 20 pounds, depending on parentage. As for temperament, they are usually gentle and loving with good intelligence. They are known for being good family pets, as they typically get along well with children and other pets.
Maltipoos are often referred to as being non-shedding and hypoallergenic, however, all dogs are known to shed to varying degrees and having a Maltipoo will not guarantee an entirely non-shedding breed. Those that have Maltipoos typically find them to be low-shedding or “minimally-shedding” and the amount of hair they will lose is generally much less than most dogs.
