Maltipoos are a relatively new breed of canine companion. They are a hybrid of a poodle and a Maltese and are known for their intelligence, loyalty and overall loving temperament. Since they are a hybrid breed, they require some special care to ensure a good quality of life. A Maltipoo requires regular brushing and grooming to keep their coats in top shape and prevent matting. These pups are also known to have a slew of health problems, so regular visits to the vet are important.
Maltipoos are considered to be a non-shedding breed because their fur consists of more of a human hair texture rather than that of a typical dog. On average, they may shed very little, if any, and some owners find that their Maltipoo hardly sheds at all. This makes them an ideal choice for those who are allergic or sensitive to dog hair, or just don't want to spend time vacuuming up pet hair throughout the week. Additionally, their coats are soft and tend to range anywhere from wavy to curly, but never coarse.
Feeding your Maltipoo should be tailored to its specific dietary needs. High-quality dry dog kibble should make up the majority of the diet, supplemented with healthy wet or raw foods, specifically ones that are designed for small breeds. To maintain a healthy weight, measure the daily amount recommended by the pet food label and divide into two or three meals. While the Standard Maltipoo is still a small dog, they can be twice the size of the Toy Maltipoo.
