Questions & Answers
Pomskies, which are also known as Pomeranian-Huskies, are a hybrid cross between two very popular dog breeds, the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. These hybrid dogs are classified in the companion group, referring to their loyalty and ability to be an excellent companion at home. They are small to medium sized dogs that can weigh between 5 and 30 pounds, and are known for their spunky and outgoing personalities.
Pomskies are considered to be hypoallergenic to some extent, though this cannot be guaranteed. They are a mix of pomeranian and siberian husky so they retain some of the characteristics of both breeds including shedding. Since they do shed a small amount, they can still trigger allergies in those who are particularly sensitive. However, compared to some other breeds, they tend to produce less dander and do not have an undercoat, meaning they produce less allergens overall.
Pomskies typically enjoy a diet similar to what other small breeds consume; namely high-quality dry kibble made with whole ingredients such as real meat, fruits, and vegetables. They also do well with occasional fresh meals that are nutrient-dense and customized with their particular dietary needs in mind. Pomskies are prone to gaining weight, so their diets should be closely monitored and strictly adhered to. Certain snacks and treats can also be incorporated into their meal plan in moderation.
To become the best puppy parent for your Pomsky, it's important to dedicate time and energy to learning about the breed and its specific needs. Research the dietary, fitness, grooming, and training requirements of Pomskies, and create a schedule and routine that you can commit to. Make sure to offer plenty of socialization and exercise, but keep in mind the breed's high energy level. Additionally, provide your pup with a safe and stimulating environment, with plenty of safe and appropriate chew toys and activities. Finally, consult with your veterinarian about any health concerns you may have.
Pomskies are typically considered to be small dogs, depending on the size of each particular dog. Though the breed is relatively new, it combines the qualities of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, both of which are smaller, medium-sized dogs. On average the size of a full-grown Pomsky lies somewhere between that of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, 8-15 inches in height and 10-30 pounds in weight. However, due to the diverse gene pool, there is a lot of variation in the breed individuals can be bigger or smaller.
The amount of minutes a Pomsky should be walked per day really depends on your individual pet. Generally speaking, Pomskies are energetic, and as such, need plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy. Typically, you should plan for 30 minutes to one hour daily, broken up into two or three shorter walks. You should assess your dog's health and fitness level, as well as weather and climate factors, to determine the best exercise routine for your pup. Do not skip days or take long, extended walks, as these can cause health issues.
Pomskies are adaptable and family-friendly breeds that make excellent companions. With their optimistic personalities and loyalty, Pomskies have a lot to offer as family dogs. They are willing to play and love to please, but also can be independent thinkers when it comes to getting attention. Pomskies are affectionate, spunky, and intelligent – all traits that make them great family dogs. Some owners describe their pups as having an almost human-like personality. And because of their size, they do not require extensive exercise; they can easily adapt to an apartment or house lifestyle.
Training Pomskies should be a daily activity that takes at least 15-30 minutes each day. The amount of time will depend on the individual needs of the dog – some may need more time depending on learning abilities, while others may require less. In addition to daily training, it's important to allow your Pomsky to explore and play, so plan to set aside at least 1-2 hours a day to devote to exercise and socialisation activities. Providing mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise, so make sure to provide engaging activities that make your pup think and play.
