Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a chartible designer dog breed that was recently created in the U.S. by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. They have a unique set of traits, which is evident in their look, energy levels, and personalities. Size-wise, they are usually between 15 and 25 pounds and have a fluffy coat, often being tricolor, with most having blue eyes. These dogs are highly social, loving, and intelligent, yet can be cautiously protective of their owners.
Whether Pomskies will cause allergies is impossible to determine without knowing an individual's personal sensitivities. That said, it is important to note that all breeds of dogs have the potential to cause allergic reactions in people. Pomskies are a mixed breed of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, so people with a history of allergies to either or both should exercise caution before committing to the breed. For those without any history of allergies, however, it is recommended to assess whether a Pomskies is the right pet for them by spending time around the breed and observing any adverse reactions.
Pomskies should not be fed foods that contain alcohol, caffeine, unhealthy fats, or anything that is excessively salty. These substances can cause serious health issues for Pomskies if ingested and can even be fatal. Foods high in sugar should also be avoided, as these can lead to diabetes and other health problems. Raw meat and uncooked bones can also be dangerous for Pomskies, so it's important to choose cooked or processed dog food.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky requires proactive effort and dedication. Start by doing research on their breed and specific needs so that you can provide them with the best care possible. Make sure to provide adequate exercise and enough mental stimulation; consider activities such as walks, play sessions, agility training, and interactive toys. Spend lots of quality time with your Pomsky, have patience and provide a lot of positive reinforcement. Develop a routine to help your Pomsky become accustomed to their environment, such as specific feeding and toilet times.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes depending on the genetic makeup of the parent-dog breeds. Generally, they range in size from as small as 4-7 pounds for a Toy Pomsky to medium-sized weighing 12-20 pounds, and even up to large, typically weighing 40-50 pounds. The miniature or Toy Pomsky is the result of a Pomeranian and a Teacup Siberian Husky while the larger pomskies are typically produced by a pairing a Pomeranian with a full-sized Siberian Husky.
Pomskies need a decent amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. On average, dogs need at least 30 minutes of running, walking, playing, and fetching activities every day. However, Pomskies have slightly higher activity levels than other breeds, so it would be wise to provide more exercise than 30 minutes. A good way to do this would be to take your dog on multiple brisk walks a day, make sure they have plenty of toys to play with, and also look into enrolling your dog in activities like agility training.
Pomskies are known to be very friendly and affectionate dogs that make excellent family pets. They are generally very gentle and loving around children, and tend to be very patient and accepting with them. Additionally, Pomskies are highly intelligent, so given proper training and socialization, they can learn how to properly behave around kids. With the right attentiveness and caution, Pomskies can be a great companion to children and would probably establish a lifetime bond of love and friendship.
Training your Pomsky is actually pretty easy! First and foremost, remember to be consistent, patient, and positive. Consistency with commands and rewards is key to ensuring that your pup learns properly. Secondly, start training your Pomsky as early as possible. Puppies have an easier time learning new things and habits than older dogs do. Third, choose basic commands and teach them one-by-one in order. Start with straightforward commands such as "sit," "down," and "come.
