Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a hybrid dog breed resulted from a cross between a Siberian husky and a Pomeranian. It first appeared in the US around 2010 and has become an increasingly popular companion due to its small size, sweet nature and fluffy coat. It is usually a medium-sized, fluffy, light colored dog with white markings. It is usually obedient, smart and loyal. The Pomsky's ideal temperament is highly energetic, friendly, intelligent, obedient and affectionate.
While Pomskies may have lowor no-shedding fur, it is not possible to accurately predict whether they're hypoallergenic. Breeds that tend to produce less dander, an allergen that irritates allergy sufferers, are typically referred to as hypoallergenic. Since the Pomsky is a mix of a Pomeranian and a Siberan Husky, you can in some cases reduce the chances of an allergic reaction. However, it is not a guarantee.
Pomskies are smart and active dogs, so it's important to make sure they get the right nutrition to stay healthy. Avoid giving them anything that is processed, high in sugar, or contains artificial preservatives or flavors. Table scraps should also be avoided since they don't provide the right nutritional balance. Additionally, make sure not to give your Pomsky human foods that are toxic or indigestible, such as grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, chocolate, avocados, and alcohol.
Preparing for a new Pomsky puppy is an exciting time! First, make sure you have all of the necessary supplies: a soft bed, chew-proof toys, healthy dog food, and other supplies like a leash, collar, and treats. Additionally, if your puppy is not already trained, enroll in a puppy training class to ensure proper socialization. You'll also want to research grooming needs, common health issues, and any other breed-specific information.
Pomskies typically reach full size by 9 12 months of age, with mature males ranging in size from 10 20 pounds and mature females being smaller, typically between 8 16 pounds. It's impossible to predict the exact size your Pomsky puppy will become as an adult, as their growth is influenced by factors such as parents' size, maintenance and diet. However, the size you can reasonably expect your Pomsky to grow to can be approximated by looking at the size of their parents.
Absolutely! Pomskies are known to have an abundance of energy, making them quite active dogs indeed. Due to their small size, they have no problem taking their energetic attitude out for a stroll every once in awhile! Pomskies make great companions, however, as they are known to be loyal and smart dogs. They are eager to please their owners, so regular exercise and activity will keep them content. The need for physical and mental stimulation through activities such as running, playing, and walking is very important for a Pomsky.
Pomskies can typically get along with other pets, however it varies from dog to dog. It ultimately depends upon the personality and energy level of the individual Pomasky. Training and socialization are important for any pet, especially when introducing them to other animals. When introducing a Pomsky to other pets, it should be done slowly and under close supervision. Providing each animal with their own space and routine helps them become comfortable with one another. With proper attention and patience, Pomskies often bond easily with other pets.
Training your Pomsky will be achievable if you are consistent, patient, and motivating. Begin by establishing rules and expectations from the start such as no jumping, no barking, and others and ensure everyone in the house is aware of and applies the rules consistently. Then, provide your Pomsky with positive reinforcement, such as a verbal "good boy" for good behavior or treats for particularly successful tasks, to reinforce positive behavior and show your canine they are doing a good job.
