Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique, hybrid cross between Siberian Huskies and Pomeranians. They are a relatively new breed and have distinctive features that set them apart. First, they are relatively small and can weigh up to 30 pounds full grown. In addition, they have thick double coats that require regular grooming, yet can adapt to many climates. This breed is also known for being moderately active and loyal, making them great companions. Additionally, Pomskies have a range of colors and patterns in their coats, providing a huge variety of aesthetic possibilities.
Pomskies have luxurious coats that are usually very soft and fluffy, with the inner coat being wooly and thick like a teddy bear and the outer coat, a bit longer. Their fur is usually a combination of its parents, the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky; often resulting in Pomskies having a lengthy, wavy coat that tends to set them apart from other breeds. Not only do Pomskies have captivating coats, but they come in a variety of colors as well, ranging from jet black to wolf-gray, pure white, and even orange and tan.
Pomskies, the companion animal hybrid between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, require a carefully balanced diet to keep them healthy. As such, it is important to be aware of what not to feed them as much as it is to know what to feed them. You should avoid feeding your Pomsky processed foods, sugary human snacks, sandwiches, table scraps, chocolate, alcohol, raisins, grapes, dairy products, rawhide, bones, or anything that is high in fat.
Pomskies, a hybrid of a Pomeranian and a Husky, generally have the same basic needs as any pet. However, they may have slightly additional special requirements due to their hybrid status. Since the Pomeranian is known for its sturdy build and husky for its thick fur, it's important to groom a Pomsky regularly and keep its thick fur trimmed to prevent matting. Regular vet check-ups and vaccinations are recommended to ensure the Pomsky's health.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes, ranging from very small to large in adult weight. On average, a Pomsky can reach an adult weight between 10 to 30 pounds, depending on the size of the Pomeranian parent. Toy-size Pomskies generally weigh around 10 pounds, small-size around 15-20 pounds, and standard-size Pomskies are around 20-30 pounds. However, this varies greatly based on the individual as Pomskies can range anywhere from 10-30 pounds.
Pomskies are active dogs, with a need for daily physical and mental stimulation. They require regular exercise for physical and mental health, and regular walks to stretch their legs. Recommended amounts of exercise should include an hour of activity daily, which should be divided between rigorous exercise such as running or swimming, and activities such as fetch and agility courses. Structured activities are especially important for Pomskies, as they help to train their brains as well as their muscles. Although an hour of daily exercise is recommended, individual needs may vary and any exercise should be adapted to suit the individual dog.
Generally, Pomskies can get along well with other pets. They are sociable by nature and are very eager to meet and play with other animals. However, as with any dog, proper socialization and training is key to ensure a harmonious relationship between a Pomsky and other pets. Depending on the other pet's personality, the Pomsky may need to be gradually introduced to them or, conversely, the other pet may need to be gradually introduced to the Pomsky.
Training a Pomsky starts with knowledge about their personality and breed traits as this social and inquisitive companion pet loves to learn. To maintain a healthy relationship with your Pomsky, you should ensure they receive the proper amount of exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization. Start with basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and walk on a leash; reward your Pomsky with treats and praise for appropriate behavior. If they show signs of disobedient or destructive behavior, give them a timeout away from the action.
