Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a designer breed that combines the cute, puffy appearance of a Husky and lovable personality of a Pomeranian. The two breeds are combined in a way that result in puppies that have the look of a Husky, but with the size of a Pomeranian. Despite their look, Pomskies are not a purebred dog, so they are usually referred to as a hybrid breed. They come in a variety of colors, from white and grey to red, brown and cream.
Pomskies are sometimes considered hypoallergenic due to their mixed parentage of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. However, it is important to remember that there is no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic dog as all dogs have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in some people who are sensitive to dander. Though this mixed breed may have fewer allergens than other breeds, cross-contamination between their two parent breeds could still cause an allergic reaction in some individuals.
Pomskies should not be fed items such as chocolate, grapes, nuts, dairy, alcohol, caffeine or any products containing artificial sweeteners which can be very toxic and lead to potential health problems. Also, avoid giving your Pomsky foods that are considered unhealthy, such as processed snacks, high-fat/sugary foods or fast food. Instead, give them a nutritious, high-quality diet complete with whole grains, fresh vegetables and top-of-the-line proteins. It's also important to monitor their daily caloric intake and not overfeed them.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can seem like a daunting task! In order to make sure your puppy is happy and healthy, there are a few steps you'll want to take before their arrival. First, make sure your home is puppy-safe by checking for exposed wires, blocking off areas your Pomsky shouldn't access, and picking up any choking hazards or small items that could cause harm. You'll also want to make sure you have the necessary supplies, including food and water bowls, a bed, toys, and a collar and leash.
The size of a Pomsky pup can fall anywhere between the size of its parents; a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. Generally, Pomskies are considered to be miniature or toy-sized, which may range from 11 18 inches in height at the shoulder and can weigh between 10-30 lbs when fully grown. However, it's important to note that due to their hybrid status, some Pomsky puppies can display physical characteristics of both its parents. This can lead to a wider range of heights and weights.
How much time you should spend walking your Pomsky each day depends on several factors, like their age, general fitness level, and overall health condition. As a general rule, it's best to walk them for at least 30 minutes each day. If your Pomsky is still a puppy, however, you should break this time into several shorter walks to help them develop and learn. If your Pomsky is a senior dog, less time may be needed, but still aim for the minimum of 30 minutes.
Generally speaking, Pomskies are social and friendly dogs that get along well with other pets as long as they are introduced and socialized properly. Pomskies tend to be gentle, sweet, and affectionate, and are generally excited to make new friends. It's important for owners to monitor any interactions between different animals at all times and to ensure proper socialization. Proper socialization of a Pomsky includes slowly introducing it to other animals in order to get it used to them.
Training a Pomsky can be a different experience for each individual. It may take some time to determine which training methods will be most effective. Depending on the level of training you are looking for, it might be more or less difficult. Potentially, basic commands, such as sit, stay and lay down may be fairly easy to train, especially if you start frequent, short training sessions. However, if you are looking for more involved and lengthy responses, it may take more time and repetition before your Pomsky is able to understand your commands.
