Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an interesting hybrid breed of canine combining the Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They have the feisty personality of the Husky and the small size of the Pomeranian. Pomskies are among the most loyal and intelligent canine breeds and can be good family pets. They require plenty of exercise due to their Husky ancestry, but their small size makes them easily portable. Pomskies are gorgeous dogs with a thick Husky coat and pointy ears typical of their Husky parent.
Pomskies have some physical traits from both the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky breeds, so it is possible that people who are allergic to their individual parts could also have allergies to Pomskies. However, it is impossible to know for certain without consulting with a qualified healthcare professional to assess an individual's personal risk of allergies to pet dander. If you have a history of pet allergies, it is best to err on the side of caution and consult your doctor first before taking on a Pomsky.
Pomskies should not be fed certain human foods, as much of it can be toxic to them. Fruits such as raisins, grapes, apples, and peaches can cause a Pomsky to suffer terrible stomach pain and can even lead to potential death. Dairy products, including foods like ice cream, can cause gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea and vomiting. Additionally, chocolate, onions, and garlic are extremely dangerous and should never be given to Pomskies. Human foods may also contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is highly toxic to dogs.
Before bringing home a new Pomsky, it is important to make sure that your home is properly prepared. Start by deciding which areas of the house will be designated for your new pet. Choose a place that is quiet and away from busy areas of the house. Then, set out food and water bowls, a comfortable bed, and toys that will engage your Pomsky's natural curiosity. To ease your Pomsky's transition, try introducing familiar scents from your home like placing a piece of clothing you've recently worn in the designated area.
Pomskies can come in a variety of sizes depending on the size of their parents. Generally, the size of an adult Pomsky is between 10 and 30 lbs. Depending on the size of their parents, they may range from a few pounds to up to 30 or more pounds. Common sizes range from tiny puppies that weight up to 8 lbs to larger ones that weight around 25-30 lbs. Miniature Pomskies are often smaller than standard size Pomskies. However, the range can be much larger than that and may even reach sizes of 40 lbs. and more in some cases.
When determining how many minutes per day you should walk your Pomsky, it’s important to take its age, breed, physical condition, and lifestyle into account. Generally speaking, a Pomsky should have at least 20 minutes of dedicated energy-expending activity per day, with additional activities such as playtime, training, or hanging with the family. Puppies need more exercise than mature dogs, as they have plenty of energy to burn. For puppies, roughly 30 minutes should do the trick, with the amount increasing as the puppy matures.
Pomskies tend to get along exceptionally well with other pets, particularly when they are properly socialized from a young age. Due to their friendly natures, it's relatively easy to introduce them to other animals. That being said, it is important to consider the temperament of other animals before bringing them into the same space to prevent any potential conflicts. Proper supervision when the pets are first getting acquainted can also help ensure that they have a positive experience together.
Pomskies have intelligence that vary depending on their individual parent breeds. On average, Pomskies tend to be relatively bright and intelligent dogs due to their Wolfhound and Pomeranian parent breeds. Pomskies are capable of learning commands quickly and can be taught tricks. They have the Wolfhound's curiosity, boldness, and alertness, along with the Pomeranian's cleverness and loyalty. Pomskies thrive with mental stimulation and can be highly-receptive to training, making them excellent family pets.
