Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a cross-breed of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky breeds, making them a hybrid class of dog. Owing to their diverse ancestry, Pomskies vary widely in size, color, and temperament. Most typically, Pomskies take on some of the traits of both parent breeds, such as the Pomeranian’s thick double-coat and the Husky’s love of running and high-energy. Pomskies also often enjoy snuggles, making them the perfect lap dog.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, which means they have characteristics of both the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. While these hybrids tend to shed less than purebred dogs, they still shed their coats and may be prone to allergies. As such, Pomskies still require regular grooming and brushing to keep their coats healthy and reduce shedding. Some owners of these amazing little dogs report that their Pomskies don't shed at all, while others report regular shedding. Overall, Pomskies tend to shed less than Siberian Huskies, which is one perk of being a hybrid breed.
Pomskies should not be fed the same diet as their parent breeds, as their nutritional needs are different. Foods like sugar, processed snacks, and soda should be avoided. Any bones or animal parts, as well as grape and raisins, are toxic and should be avoided. Human food should also not be given as it can cause indigestion and other health complications. Instead, look for premium grade, high-quality dog food, properly balanced with proteins, minerals, vitamins and omega fatty acids, as well as plenty of fiber.
Before getting a Pomsky, there are several essentials that you should invest in. This includes a sturdy crate to use for housing and transportation, a quality set of food and water bowls to use for feeding, a series of chew toys to keep your pet entertained, a leash and collar set for walking, several grooming tools such as a brush, nail clippers, and no-tear shampoo, plus a properly sized bed.
Pomskies are hybrid or designer dogs with differing size depending on which parent they have taken their traits from; which can range from small to larger in size. Generally speaking however, they are considered to be a small to medium sized dog. When compared to many of the other breeds of dogs, Pomskies are typically between 10-15 inches in shoulder height and between 15-20 pounds on average. If a Pomsky is bred from two smaller sized parents, the pup may be considered a small dog, whereas breeding from larger parents could produce a pup of medium size.
Pomskies need anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of exercise every day, depending on the age and size of the individual pup. This daily exercise regime should include a combination of short walks, playtime in the yard, games, and other activities. It's especially important to give plenty of playtime to a Pomsky, as they tend to have very high energy levels and need plenty of stimulation and exercise to stay healthy and happy. This breed is relatively active, even when indoors, and does best with owners who can provide consistent activity so they don't get bored or anxious.
Pomskies can make great family pets, as they demonstrate patience and affection with children. Pomskies often bond with children and become very loyal companions because of their sociable nature and adaptive personalities. As with any pet, proper guidance and training for both pet and child are key in having a successful relationship. Pomskies prefer to have a regular routine and respond well to positive reinforcement and consistency. In addition, children should be taught and monitored properly on how to approach and interact with their Pomsky in order to prevent the pet from feeling overwhelmed or threatened.
Pomskies are often thought to be a very intelligent and perceptive breed, although this can vary from one individual to another. In general, they tend to be active, loyal and alert dogs that respond quickly to cues from both their environment and their owners. They can learn and remember commands relatively quickly, making them great candidates for basic obedience training. Pomskies also show curiosity about their surroundings and even enjoy creative activities, such as agility and search and rescue. Overall, they are known for being bright and eager to please, which makes them a smart and loyal companion.
