Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a relatively new designer dog breed that is a hybrid of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They are a small-sized breed, usually growing to no more than 15 inches tall and approximately 20 pounds. They have a soft and thick double-coat, which can either be a combination of black, gray, white, sable, red, or cream with the traditional Siberian husky striking markings and facial markings of a Pomeranian. Pomskies can also possess the characteristic blue eyes of both parents, or a combination of brown and blue.
Pomskies can be low-shedding, however they are not considered a non-shedding breed. They have a double coat, and will typically shed more during the spring/summer months when they are shedding their winter coats. To minimize the amount of shedding, be sure to give your Pomsky regular grooming and use a good quality brush to help reduce the amount of dead hair. Regular grooming helps to reduce the accumulation of hair in the home. Additionally, a high quality diet helps the coat stay healthy and reduce shedding.
Pomskies eat a variety of foods, including premium dry dog food, wet and dry canned food, and healthy, natural snacks. Their diet should be tailored to their individual needs, and it’s important to monitor their meals to ensure they’re getting enough nutrition. Pomskies may also need supplementation if their diet is low in certain nutrients. If possible, feed them at least two smaller meals per day and supplement with snacks in between. It's also important to remember that treats should only make up a small percentage of a Pomsky's daily diet.
Before your new Pomsky arrives, there are a few things you should do to get your home ready. First, ensure that your home is a safe environment for it. Make sure all houseplants are out of reach, as they may be toxic to your pup. Remove any small objects or clothing items that could be chewed or ingested. Second, create a safe sleeping area for your pup. Set up a comfortable dog bed and toys/treats for them to play with. Third, make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies on-hand.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, so they can vary in size depending on the parents used. Generally speaking, Pomskies are not considered to be a large breed dog. They typically reach a height of about 12-15 inches, and a weight of about 10-30 pounds. This is a moderate size that likely wouldn't classify them as a 'big dog'. However, puppies of this breed can be born of larger proportion if either of his parents are larger.
Pomskies require moderate to intense exercise on a daily basis in order to remain healthy and happy. Since they are part Husky, they are highly active and require more activity than a toy breed. Walks or runs of at least 30 minutes each day are recommended, or walks of at least 1 hour combined with plenty of playtime each day. It's also important to give your pup mental exercise, such as playing fetch, playing with interactive toys, or going on hikes.
Pomskies have a tremendous capacity for getting along with other pets. They are incredibly social animals and tend to be both friendly and curious in their interactions with other creatures. While it is always important to introduce new pets gradually and respect the individual personalities of each one, many Pomskies adjust well to new surroundings and eagerly welcome companionship and attention from the other animals in the household. With patience, training, and mutual respect, Pomskies can become delightful playmates and share in the joy and happiness of a multi-pet home.
Absolutely! Pomskies are intelligent and inquisitive dogs, bred from a combination of two highly clever and highly trainable breeds the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. It's no surprise that their offspring retains many of the best traits from their parent breeds, making them highly trainable and obedient dogs. Pomskies can easily be trained to understand basic commands, like sit, stay and come, as well as more complex tasks. It also helps that they are highly social and love to interact with people, which makes them receptive to cues from their owners.
