Questions & Answers
Pomskies, also known as Pomeranian Huskies, are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are a fairly new item of the "designer dog" breed, with origins in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s. Pomskies can vary significantly in appearance, depending on which breed of parent they take after more. Generally, they are small-medium sized dogs, with a thick and soft double coat, that can range in colors from black to white, with many shades in between.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, resulting from the mating of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. Although there is no single breed standard for this type of hybrid, it is not possible to definitively answer the question of whether or not they are hypoallergenic. Generally speaking, a genetic predisposition to certain kinds of allergies does not pass on from one generation to the next; however, depending upon which genes are being expressed, some Pomskies may be hypoallergenic.
Pomskies do have special dietary needs and should not be fed a standard diet. Pomskies have a unique digestive system which requires them to consume a higher proportion of fat and protein than other breeds of dogs. The best diet for a Pomsky should reflect their higher energy need and should contain adequate amounts of proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. The diet should also be balanced, taking into consideration the size of the dog and its activity level.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can take a lot of work! Firstly, make sure that you have the space in your home for your pup to roam. Consider where your pup will sleep and if you need to purchase any items such as a bed or crate. Research the particular breed so you know what type of characteristics they have and the food they should best be fed. Next, consider investing in a training class so your pup gets used to living with you.
Pomsky puppies tend to stay between 10-15 inches tall at the shoulder and 12-28 pounds in weight as adults. The size of a fully grown Pomsky can vary depending on a variety of factors, including their parents' sizes and weights, and their genetics. Generally speaking, the larger the parents, the larger the pup will be as an adult. However, the smaller size of the Pomsky is part of their breed appeal, so it is important to carefully monitor their size while they're growing up to ensure they stay within the desirable size range.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, so their exact exercise needs may vary. Generally speaking, however, they require moderate levels of exercise. Taking them for a short walk each day and allowing them to play in a securely fenced and safe outdoor area will help them to remain healthy and happy. Additionally, these clever dogs enjoy agility activities and mental stimulation, and activities like fetch or ‘hide and seek’ can provide them with mental and physical challenges. However, it's important to remember to introduce a new activity slowly and carefully, as too much at once could lead to injury or exhaustion.
Pomskies are generally very friendly with adults, children, and other animals they encounter. In general, they are very gentle, sweet and playful, making them ideal companions for kids. They also have a lot of energy and playfulness, which makes them great buddies to have around. That said, every dog is unique, and it’s important to teach children, and they should understand that not all dogs are the same.
Pomskies are generally considered intelligent dogs. They have a high energy level and typically love working and learning new tasks. Because of their mixed breed lineage, they can exhibit a variety of traits from both the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky parent breeds. They tend to excel in agility training, tricks, and obedience commands. Also, they love responding to reinforcement training and are typically eager to please their owners. Pomskies are easily motivated, which makes teaching them commands and tricks a relatively easy process.
