Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of dogs, formed from a mix of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky. They have a playful, energetic, and curious personality, making them an extremely interesting breed. They often look like a small wolf due to their thick and fluffy coats, and can range in size depending on the type of Husky that is bred. Pomskies can come in many different colors too, such as black, white, red, gray, and cream.
The Pomsky coat is a beautiful combination of that of the Pomeranian and the Husky. Generally, the coat of a Pomsky will be thick and fluffy, with hairs ranging from straight to curly lengths, and colors coming in a variety of shades. A Pomsky will commonly have a tail that curls and droops over the back, with its head being covered in a bushy mane. Its face will have a mask of its coloring sometimes called 'tiger stripes' highlighted by its often striking eyes which can range from shades of blue to brown or multi-colored.
Pomskies are known to have sensitive stomachs, and as such, it is best to avoid giving them certain foods. Generally, you should try to avoid foods that are high in fat, like pork rinds. Also, any food with a lot of added sugar should be avoided as it can cause blood sugar spikes and other health issues. Other foods to avoid include onions, garlic, chocolate, raw eggs, and uncooked meat, fish, or poultry, which can contain bacteria that can make your Pomsky very sick.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can be a very exciting but daunting task. Before bringing your new pup home, you should start by gathering all the necessary supplies needed. Make sure to have food and water dishes, a cozy and comfortable bed, toys, treats, a collar and leash, and grooming supplies all ready to go on your pup's arrival. Additionally, it's important to research and consider the various vaccinations and health requirements prescribed by your veterinarian.
The size of your Pomsky puppy will depend on a few factors. Most Pomskies will reach somewhere between 10 to 15 inches in height and will weigh between 15 to 30 pounds when fully grown. However, it is important to keep in mind that Pomskies are a hybrid breed and can display varying sizes depending on the parent breeds involved. Generally the size of a Pomsky puppy will be a mix of the parent breeds, meaning it can be difficult to predict precise size.
Pomskies are a mixture of Siberian Husky and Pomeranian, and just like any other breed, all dogs need exercise. Standard daily exercise requirements for a Pomksy usually range between one to two hours of moderate activity, as well as a good deal of daily playtime. Ideally, Pomskies should receive an hour of exercise in the morning, with moderate exercise afternoons and a good amount of active playtime. Exercise should consist of both walks and sprints to strengthen their muscles, as well as get their heart rate up.
Yes, Pomskies typically get along very well with kids. In fact, they are known for being both affectionate and playful, which makes them excellent family dogs. Pomskies make great outdoor companions who will follow their owners around and enjoy playing games. A Pomsky's natural intelligence and alertness will keep kids safe around them, and their ability to take direction and form strong bonds mean they can be trained easily if you need them to stay out of certain areas or do certain activities with the kids.
When it comes to how much time you should spend training your Pomskies daily, it really depends on your specific dog and its age. Puppies should spend more time being trained (up to a few hours a day) as they are still learning the basics. Adult dogs should receive a minimum of 30 minutes of training a day that is broken up into several short sessions. On top of this, it is a good idea to do additional activities with your pup like daily walks, playtime, and enrichment activities to ensure your pup is receiving the stimulation they need.
