Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an incredibly interesting breed of canine! They are the result of a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, two of the more popular and beloved canine breeds. With the Pomskie you get the best of both worlds; they are gentle and loyal as well as lively, active, and alert. They also come in a variety of colors including solid white, black, gray, sable, and white and tan or red and black.
Pomskies can help manage allergies due to their hypoallergenic nature. They have a low-shedding coat and emit a fraction of the irritants that many other breeds are known to carry. To better manage your allergies with Pomskies, you can vacuum the area regularly, launder their bedding and toys weekly, and regularly bath and brush your Pomsky to remove any excess dander. Additionally, brushing them outside or in an area with strong air flow can help remove any loose and floating hairs that contain allergens.
Pomskies should not be fed table scraps, as they are prone to obesity, and high-fat foods can lead to life-threatening illnesses. Avoid feeding your Pomsky human foods that contain a lot of sugar, like candy or desserts, as high-sugar content can cause weight gain and dental problems. Additionally, avoid giving your Pomsky raw, under-cooked, or uncooked meat, as this can cause food poisoning. You should also limit feeding them grapes and raisins as these can be toxic to dogs.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Pomsky requires a combination of consideration, dedication, and patience. Start by doing your research; read up on the breed and get advice from experienced Pomsky owners to learn about their personality, health needs, and proper nutrition. Make sure you take your pup to the vet for check-ups and immunizations. Spend quality time with them every day, providing plenty of positive reinforcement for good behavior and helping them to learn basic commands.
Pomskies come in a range of sizes, however standard sizes have been established. Adult Pomskies range between 10-15 inches and can weigh anywhere from 10-30 pounds. It is important to note that the size of a pup can depend largely on the genetics of their parents, which means that minor variations in size are expected. Additionally, if you intend to register your pup with the American Kennel Club, they have certain size requirements that you must be aware of. Despite the fixed size standard, Pomskies are renowned for their intelligence and adaptability.
It's recommended that Pomskies receive at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, split into two or more separate sessions. Some of this should include a walk. Therefore, it would be beneficial to walk your Pomsky at least 30 minutes a day. However, it really depends on your Pomsky's energy levels and the level of physical activity they need. Some Pomskies may require more, while some may require less. If there are no medical concerns, aim for at least 30 minutes per day, with two shorter walks spread out throughout the day if possible.
Pomskies can make excellent family pets, including with children of all ages. They are intelligent and friendly, so if proper training and socialization is given throughout their life, they can be very gentle and loving companions. Pomskies tend to have a playful demeanor and can make wonderful, loyal friends. As with all breeds, owners must be aware of possible health risks and ensure their puppy is receiving the best care possible. With careful considerations of vet visits, nutrition and socialization, a Pomsky can be a great fit for any family, especially with kids!
Training a Pomsky should be done on a regular schedule to ensure an optimal bond between you and your pup. It is recommended that you plan for at least 10-15 minutes per day. This can be done through obedience training classes and activities, such as walking, playing fetch, and agility drills. It is important to note, however, that when training a Pomsky, it is important to also factor in time for play. Playing is an essential part of the bonding and training process and should not be neglected.
