Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about Pomskies is their one-of-a-kind appearance. As a hybrid dog, they have the essential attributes of both parent breeds, which makes them truly unique. Their coats typically combine the thick, fluffy fur of the Pomeranian and the beautiful colors of the Siberian Husky, bringing both beauty and style to the mix. They are also very energetic, loyal, and intelligent dogs, and make excellent family pets for people who can commit to regular exercise and training.
Pomskies are hybrids, which means that they can inherit traits from both parent breeds. As such, it is not possible to definitively answer whether or not they are hypoallergenic. While some Pomskies may be hypoallergenic, there is no guarantee that all of them will be. For those concerned about the hypoallergenic properties of their pup, it is best to speak to the breeder from which the dog is adopted and inquire about the parents' histories to get a better understanding of the traits that may have been inherited.
Pomskies should be kept far away from chocolates, as chocolate can be toxic for them. It is also important to avoid feeding your Pomsky any type of avocado, as this can also be dangerous. Additionally, you should not give them raisins as these can lead to digestive distress. Make sure any leftovers are thoroughly cooked and not salty, greasy or spicy. You should also not feed them human foods that contain xylitol, onion, garlic or scallions as these can cause anemia or organ damage to your pet.
Before you bring home your new Pomsky, it's important to ensure that you have all the necessary supplies and have taken the appropriate steps to prepare them for their new home. Create a safe and comfortable environment for your new pup by having supplies such as a kennel, toys, treats, food, and bedding ready ahead of time. Additionally, make sure that you start introducing good behaviors early on by researching positive reinforcement training techniques and scheduling regular visits to the veterinarian.
Pomskies come in a range of sizes, depending on the breeding of the parent dogs. The Pomskies tends to grow the size of the larger breed parent; when bred between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, the pup typically ranges from 10 to 20 pounds, and stands around 10-15 inches at the shoulder. Depending on the individual Pomsky, some puppies may be a bit larger. Regardless of size, a Pomksy will always have the thick double coat of a Husky, and the alert face and spitz-like head of the Pomeranian.
Pomskies can enjoy swimming but the exact level of their enthusiasm varies based on the individual pup. Some Pomskies are natural-born swimmers and may willingly and energetically jump into the pool to meet you, while others take a little time to warm up to the idea. Generally speaking, if you introduce your Pomsky pup to the water gradually, you can ensure they develop a positive association with swimming. Start by allowing your pup to wade in shallow areas, and provide plenty of positive reinforcement.
Pomskies have a personality as unique as their breed is, but they typically can get along well with kids of all ages. With good management and training, Pomskies can learn to be friendly and patient with children, as long as the kids treat them with kindness. With the Pomskies' intelligence and desire to please, they can easily bond with any family, especially when it includes kids.
Training Pomskies on a daily basis is vital in order to ensure they have good behavior. However, the exact amount of minutes you should dedicate per day to training will depend on your specific pup. Generally speaking, it is recommended to spend between 15-30 minutes per day training your Pomsky. This time can be divided into shorter training sessions throughout the day. During these short sessions, focus on teaching new commands and improving their existing obedience skills. Finally, make sure to use positive reinforcement techniques such as providing treats and verbal praise in order to encourage progress.
