Questions & Answers
Pomskies are one of the most interesting and unique hybrid dog breeds out there due to their dual heritage of both Siberian Husky and Pomeranian. Not only are they an eye-catching blend of two very different types of purebred pups, but they often possess a unique combination of the best physical and behavioral traits from both parent breeds. Not only are they typically smaller in size and require less significant exercise, but they tend to be more loyal and loving than either breed individually.
Managing allergies with Pomskies can be tricky, so it is recommended that those who have allergies do extensive research into the breed and speak with a breeder about the lineage of the puppy before making a purchase. Regardless of the puppy's parent breed, it is always important to wipe down your pet regularly to reduce the spread of allergens and bathe them weekly using an allergen-reducing shampoo. Additionally, it can be beneficial to invest in an air purifier to help reduce the allergens in the air.
Pomskies are fairly new, but those that have them oftentimes want to overfeed them snacks. It's important to remember that just like any other pet, Pomskies should only have one balanced diet with treats in moderation. They should not be fed table scraps, rawhide, bones, pig ears, corn on the cob, string, chocolate, caffeinated beverages, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, or avocados as these can be very dangerous. Barbecue sauce, ketchup, and other high-fat or heavily-salted foods should also be avoided.
Before getting a Pomsky, it is important to ensure you have all of the necessary items to provide for your pet's basic needs. These items include a collar and leash, feeding bowls, bedding, toys, grooming supplies, a crate and a brush. It is also important to have strong fences in your yard and make sure there are no escape points in the yard that the pup can take advantage of. You should also factor in veterinary visits as well as pet insurance and consider spaying or neutering your Pomsky.
The size of a Pomsky puppy can vary greatly, depending on factors such as genetics, age, and diet. Generally, most adult Pomskies reach up to a maximum weight of around 20 pounds, though it's not uncommon for some dogs to reach between 25-30 pounds. Some can even reach up to 35 pounds. Also, keep in mind that as they grow, their size may also change, depending on how they are cared for.
The exact number of minutes you should walk your Pomsky each day will depend on a variety of factors such as your pup's age, energy levels, general health, and the temperature outside. Generally, you should aim for at least 20-30 minutes of walking per day; however, if your pup is younger and has plenty of energy, you may want to increase this amount as much as an hour.
Pomskies can make excellent pets for first-time owners, as they are loyal companions with a moderate activity level. They are typically very easy to train, provided the owner has the patience and consistency. They should also receive plenty of socialization in order to help them learn to interact appropriately with people and other animals. With proper introduction and technique, first-time owners can go on to have a positive, fulfilling relationship with their Pomskies.
Pomskies are often considered smart dogs due to them being a hybrid of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky breeds. Many owners of this type of dog report that they are clever, fast learners and good problem-solvers. Pomskies tend to take well to commands and are quite independent. However, how smart a Pomsky is could depend on several factors such as socialization, training, and environment. In general, they are intelligent and capable of understanding the basic commands like "sit" and "stay".
