Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an energetic hybrid breed of dogs that originated in the late 1990s. They are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. These dogs are small in size, usually weighing no more than 30 pounds when fully grown. They are active, happy, and make great family pets. Some fun facts about Pomskies include the fact that they can come in a variety of colors including black, white, brown, grey, and sable, and they also have a thick, double-layer coat.
The Pomsky is known for having a beautiful coat of fluff that come in a wide variety of colors. Depending on the individual dog, these can range from a light tan to a deep charcoal gray. Commonly described as having a thick plush wool-like feeling when touched, the coat can have a wave to it when let to grow long or be kept short and smooth. Most dogs are relatively low shedders, however brushing is still recommended on a weekly basis to help keep your pup's coat looking its best.
Pomskies should not be fed anything high in sugar, as it can make them gain weight and put unnecessary stress on their small bones. Likewise, they should not be fed hot foods as they may be too hot for their delicate digestive systems. Avoid feeding them table foods as these can contain fats and oils that could irritate their stomachs and make them sick. Additionally, processed foods can contain hidden chemicals that may be harmful to their health. Instead, provide them with a balanced diet of high-quality dry food specifically designed for small breed dogs.
Having a new pet can be both exciting and overwhelming. Preparing your home for your new Pomsky is an important part of the process. Firstly, make sure to clear out any dangerous objects or poisonous plants. Secondly, get all the necessary supplies such as food, a collar or harness, a soft bed, treats and toys that are suitable for your Pomsky's age and size. Thirdly, puppy proof your home by blocking off any rooms that should not be accessed.
Pomskies are the result of crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky, so there is quite a bit of variation in size. Generally, Pomskies can range in size from small to medium, with small being the most common. While Pomskies are usually described as "toy" or "miniature" dogs, many can be quite large for these categories, so size is not always indicative of a Pomsky's breed.
An appropriate amount of time to walk a Pomsky each day would depend on the individual dog's age, size, and health. Generally speaking, it's recommended that adult Pomskies be walked for at least 30 minutes every day to keep them healthy, strong, and mentally satisfied. Puppies, however, need even more frequent walks due to their age and energy level; around an hour of walking throughout the day is usually optimal for a puppy Pomsky.
Typically, Pomskies enjoy being around kids and get along with them very well. They tend to be friendly and sociable, so there's usually no issue when it comes to young kids. Not all, but many Pomskies are incredibly patient so even if the child is overly excited and runs around the pop sky will be patient. They have an abundance of energy and love to play games with children, making them great family dogs. While some may need proper socialization and training, most Pomskies are well suited to provide companionship and playtime with kids of all ages.
Training Pomskies should be done for at least 30 minutes every day to ensure they receive adequate physical and mental stimulation. It is important to incorporate different activities and exercises into their routine that challenge their minds and bodies. Social time and a variety of experiences should also be included as part of their regular training regime. Exercise and play should focus on activities that prevent boredom, such as running, walking, playing, and training. By providing your Pomsky with a range of experiences and different activities, you can help them flourish both physically and mentally.
