Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of dog that have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are affectionate, loyal, and protective animals that make a great addition to any household. Some fun facts about Pomskies include that they were developed by crossing a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. This hybrid breed is known for their double coat of fur, possessing both the long fur of a Siberian Husky and the short, dense fur of a Pomeranian. Additionally, Pomskies are usually quite small, weighing anywhere from seven to twenty pounds.
Pomskies are hybrid dogs, created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. As a result, their coat can vary from dog to dog. Some Pomskies do not shed, while some may shed seasonally or throughout the year. Proper grooming and regular brushing can certainly help to reduce shedding, however this is not a guarantee. Some people find that regular bathing and weekly brushing also helps reduce the amount of shed hair. It is also important to note that even Pomskies with a non-shedding coat may still produce dander and have seasonal increase in shedding.
Pomskies are a relatively new breed, resulting from the crossbreeding of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. As such, dietary needs will depend upon the size and weight of your individual pup. Generally, Pomskies should be fed high-quality, species-appropriate dry food with excellent nutritional content such as vegetables, grains, and fruits. Look for a food specifically formulated for the breed and their special dietary needs like their need for Omega-3 fatty acids. Since they are very active dogs, make sure their diet contains plenty of protein, fat, and carbohydrates as well.
Preparing your home for your new Pomsky is a fun and exciting process that will ensure they feel comfortable in their new environment. The most important thing you can do to prepare is to puppy-proof your house. Remove anything that could potentially be hazardous or dangerous to your new puppy, like household cleaning supplies, plastic bags, or toxic plants. You'll also want to create a safe space for your puppy to explore. Make sure to block off any areas of your home that you don't want the puppy to enter.
Although pomskies have characteristics of both a Pomeranian and a Husky, they are relatively small to be considered a large breed of dog. Pomskies generally grow to a height of 10 to 15 inches and a weight of 15 to 25 pounds. This makes them small to medium-sized, but some may be a bit larger and weigh up to 35 pounds. While many people might consider that to be a large size for a dog, compared to the average size of both Pomeranian and Husky breeds, it is still in the small to medium range.
Generally, Pomskies should get at least 30-45 minutes of exercise and outdoors time each day. Walking is a great exercise for these dogs, so if you can provide some outdoor activity in addition to other forms of exercise, like playing fetch, it would be even more beneficial for them. Depending on the age and breed type of your pet, the amount of exercise can vary. Make sure to consult your vet to determine how much and what type of exercise is best for your dog and adjust your walking routine accordingly.
Pomskies are generally known to be good with kids and have plenty of energy and enthusiasm to keep your children entertained. They are loyal and loving towards their families, usually becoming attached to one or two people in particular. They thrive with interaction and love nothing more than to play and snuggle up with their new family. These small to medium-sized dogs are also clever and should be able to comprehend basic commands and commands easily. Pomskies can also all be taught to be gentle with children, so proper socialization and training are important.
Training a Pomsky is not too difficult; they tend to be eager and eager-to-please, but also strong-willed. Start by getting your pup used to walking on a leash; attach the leash while you are in the house and allow the pup to wander the house while you are supervising it. Once they get the hang of walking with the leash, start taking them outside on walks of short distances. Focus initially on teaching basic commands like 'sit', 'wait', 'come', and 'stay'.
