Questions & Answers
The most interesting thing about Pomskies is their unique look. Due to their genetic blend, Pomskies usually have an intriguing combination of the Pomeranian and Siberian husky fur coats and facial features. Not only do they both have distinctly different looks, but also two distinct personalities. For this reason, Pomskies tend to have a personality that is a balance of the two parent breeds playful and friendly, as well as alert and strong-willed. They are also relatively rare, making them a sought after breed and very desirable.
Pomskies are not typically considered to be hypoallergenic because both the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky have the potential to emit allergens through their fur and dander. Allergens are substances which can cause allergies in certain individuals. Having said that, many Pomskies do have a lower than average allergen count and could potentially be well-suited to those with mild allergies.
Pomskies are a hybrid of a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, and they have sensitive stomachs. Therefore it is important to feed them a balanced diet as recommended by a professional veterinarian. You should avoid feeding Pomskies toxic food such as milk, onions, chocolates, macadamia nuts, raw potatoes, raw eggs, raisins, and grapes. These items can be especially dangerous or even fatal for them. Pomskies should also not be fed human foods as they lack the necessary nutrients to a healthy dog diet.
To get ready for your new Pomsky, it's important to puppy-proof your home. Make sure your house is safe for your pet by hiding or removing any hazardous or tempting objects (like fairy lights or toxic plants). Make sure you have a secure fence and gate around your yard, so your Pomsky won't wander off. Get an ID tag and collar for your pet in case they get lost. Set up a comfortable place for them to sleep, like an elevated pet bed or cozy blanket.
Pomskies generally range from 10-15 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 7-20 pounds, depending on the parents' size. Generally, it is a good idea to meet with the parents of a Pomsky puppy before deciding on a specific breed, as this is the surest way to predict what the pup's full-grown size will be. An average full-grown Pomsky will usually weigh between 10-20 pounds. Though there is always a chance that it could be larger or smaller once fully grown, this is the general size range that you can expect for a Pomsky.
Absolutely! Taking your Pomsky running is a great way to get them the necessary exercise, as long as you are mindful to not over-exert them. It is important to make sure they are encountering a reasonable distance and/or intensity of running and do not get too over-heated as they do not tolerate the heat very well. With that being said, it is important to find running surfaces that are not too hard. If the surface is too hard, look for grassy areas or dirt tracks as these are not quite as hard on paws.
Pomskies can be great family dogs, depending on their environment and upbringing. They are highly intelligent, eager to please and overall sweet dogs that can thrive in a loving environment. They are highly energetic and need plenty of exercise and activities to reduce boredom which could lead them to destructive behaviors. That being said, Pomskies tend to bond strongly with their owners and can be very devoted dogs and their loyalty, protectiveness and obedience make them ideal family members. With proper, consistent training and socialization Pomskies make excellent companions and can form life-long bonds with their owners.
The exact amount of time that you should spend training your Pomsky each day will vary depending on the age and training level of your pup. Generally, the minimum amount of training time your Pomsky should receive is 10-15 minutes a day. This can include anything from basic obedience commands and leash-walking to more advanced agility and tricks. However, it's important to note that more time spent on training will yield better results. If you can devote 30-45 minutes to training your Pomsky each day, you'll be setting your pup up with a great foundation for success.
