Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid, or designer, dog breed made by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. This generally small-to-medium breed is considered a companion dog, and has a beautiful and distinctive look that appeals to many dog lovers. It has a thick double coat, with a soft undercoat and a long, straight, outer coat. It typically has a variety of possible coat colors, from black to white and everything in between. Pomskies are cheerful and friendly, and they can have a strong independent streak as well.
The Pomsky coat is truly unique. They have a fine, thick double coat that can range in colors from cream, sable, gray, and wolf-sable to silver, blue, and black. Their coats can be wavy or straight and are usually long, allowing the hair to flow gracefully over the dog's body. Additionally, some Pomskies may feature markings on the legs, chest, and face that add an extra touch of cuteness to these dogs.
Pomskies are a hybrid type of canine, meaning they do not have an exact dietary necessity. Generally, they do best on a high-quality, nutrient-rich diet, preferably tailored to smallto medium-bred dogs. Depending on the individual, that diet could include both wet and dry food, kibble, pet-safe raw treats, as well as other forms of snacks and goodies. Adding things like vegetables and fruits, including blueberries, melon, squash, and apples, can be beneficial for their digestion.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, it's important to make sure your home is properly prepared. Begin by puppy-proofing your home: move any delicate items off the floors, secure any wires and cords and block any possible escape routes. Make sure all doors, windows and vents are properly closed to prevent your pup from running away or experiencing safety risks. Then create a designated space for your Pomsky, such as a room or a crate. Set out food, water and toys in the area. Keep the area consistent so your pup knows it's his safe zone.
Pomskies, which are a mix of Pomeranian and Siberian Huskies, typically range from 15-30 pounds and can be considered small dogs. They are usually small enough to fit comfortably in an apartment, on an airplane, or in another small space. However, if you're looking for a truly tiny dog, Pomskies may be a bit large. To get a dog of significantly smaller size, you may want to look at a Pomeranian on its own.
Pomskies need a fair bit of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. While their specific needs depend on their age, size, and health condition, they need at least an hour of activity per day through a combination of walking, running, and playing. Generally, they are happiest when they have access to a large yard to run and play in, and when they have a regular exercise routine that includes either a brisk walk or an active play session.
Pomskies can make wonderful family pets and are usually good with kids. They are an active breed and require plenty of exercise and regular interaction to stay mentally stimulated. It is important to remember that socializing puppies from a young age is key in preventing potential issues in adulthood. With consistent, proper training, Pomskies are typically gentle, friendly and can make wonderful companions for children. They are usually intelligent, affectionate and loyal, making them a great companion for a responsible, respectful kid. When introducing a young Pomsky to your children, supervision is key.
Training Pomskies is essential to ensuring their wellbeing and for them to be well-behaved members of your family. Ideally, you should be devoting a minimum of 15-20 minutes per day to their ongoing training. However, the exact amount of time required to train a Pomsky and the activities you should do may vary due to the age, breed, and individual personality of the dog. Some activities you could do include playing helpful obedience games, teaching basic commands, having regular practice of previously learned behaviors, and using positive reinforcement.
