Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid breed, and are classified as designer dogs. The breed is created when a Pomeranian is crossed with a Siberian Husky. Pomskies are highly active and loving, whose personalities tend to be a combination of their two parent breeds loyal, friendly and alert. They can be jovial when it comes to affection, just as Huskies tend to be, but also can be loyal and independent, just like Pomeranians. They are generally sociable with their family, and can even be quite outgoing.
Pomskies are a designer breed of dog which are created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. As both parent breeds are normally considered to be hypoallergenic, there is no guarantee that a Pomsky would be hypoallergenic too. However, due to their high prevalence of double-coat shedding, the potential for allergies induced by the breed should not be underestimated.
Pomskies have some special dietary needs that should be taken into consideration when deciding how to feed them. As hybrids that are part Pomeranian and part Siberian Husky, they have unique nutrient requirements compared to other breeds. It is important to provide a balanced diet with a balanced ratio of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, as well as other important elements such as avocado-based oils, probiotics, and omega-3 fatty acids. Additionally, it is recommended to adjust the caloric intake according to the size and activity level of the Pomsky.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can be an exciting but daunting task. First, make sure your home is safe for your new furry friend; this includes child-proofing any areas they will have access to, researching any toxins, and pet-proofing furniture. Then, stock up on some essential supplies such as a bed, water and food dishes, kibble, and toys. Additionally, you'll want to schedule an appointment with your local veterinarian and enroll your pup in some obedience training classes.
The eventual size of a Pomsky puppy will depend largely on the genetic makeup of the individual pup. Generally, a Pomsky can be expected to reach anywhere from 10 to 15 inches in height when fully grown and will typically weigh 15 to 30 pounds. The size of the parent breeds plays a large role in the size of the puppy as the size of the Siberian Husky parent combined with the size of the Pomeranian parent will determine the size of the offspring. Some Pomskies may be larger, while others will be smaller.
Pomskies are energetic, curious, and smart dogs, so they need plenty of regular exercise for their physical and mental well-being. A good amount of exercise for this hybrid breed is usually at least an hour per day, split into two or three short walks. They have a lot of energy to burn and will require a lot of mental stimulation via play time. Fetch and other active games are always great to get the pup’s energy levels down.
Pomskies are generally very friendly and gentle, making them a great choice for families with children. They are a hybrid between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, combining the best of both breeds. As a result, they tend to have a lot of energy which can be great fun for kids. They can also be quite loyal and intelligent, so they can often form a bond with their human family quickly. Overall, they are likely to get along well with kids and make a great addition to any family.
The amount of time each day you spend training your Pomskies depends on their age and energy level. Generally, young Pomskies require more training than older ones, as they are more energetic and stimulate them to learn. Generally speaking, younger Pomskies should receive at least 10-30 minutes of training each day, while older Pomskies should have 15-45 minutes a day. Longer training sessions throughout the week, on a regular schedule, will help develop and maintain desirable behaviour.
