Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid between Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies. They are often referred to as designer dogs, or hybrid breeds. These energetic and sociable little canines make for fantastic family pets or companions. Fun facts about Pomskies include the fact that they shed very little, but require brushing and regular doggy haircuts to stay healthy. Pomskies are also quite vocal, utilizing a cross between the curly bark of a Pomeranian and the more husky-like howl of a Siberian Husky.
Pomskies have a unique, exotic coat that stands out from other breeds. It's a mix of the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian, which typically has one or two layers of fur. The top layer is usually thicker and longer than the undercoat, creating a very thick, luxurious look to the coat. The top layer can range from medium to long and is sometimes wavy or curly. The coat can be quite soft and fluffy and is often considered luxurious. Pomskies may also be found with a wide variety of colours and markings, adding to the uniqueness of this breed.
Pomskies are hybrid breeds, so they have different dietary needs than a purebred dog. It's important to avoid feeding them any type of human food, as certain ingredients can be toxic for dogs. You should also avoid giving them food containing fatty or sugary ingredients like sweets, nuts, and fried foods. You should also avoid giving them all raw foods like bones or eggs, as these can contain salmonella, a bacteria that can make your dog very sick.
Becoming a great puppy parent for your Pomsky starts with learning as much as possible about the breed. Research the breed, its needs, and its grooming and exercise requirements to become an informed and committed Pomsky parent. A healthy diet and plenty of exercise are key for keeping your pup in top shape. Additionally, positive reinforcement and plenty of playtime will help build strong bonds. Socialization with people and other animals should begin as early as possible to ensure your pup is friendly and not fearful or aggressive.
Pomskies typically range from 10-15 inches in height and 12-20 pounds in weight when fully grown. Depending on the size of their parents, some Pomskies will remain quite small, while others may achieve a slightly larger size. On average, standard Pomskies will remain within this size range as adults. So, whatever size the puppy is at the onset of adoption will likely not significantly change, making it easy to plan accordingly for the pet that's right for your home.
Pomskies, also known as Pomeranian-Husky mixes, are dogs that tend to love the water, and usually are quite fond of swimming. It's not uncommon for them to be able to spend multiple hours playfully paddling around. The water serves as an enjoyable release of energy for them. Most Pomskies enjoy swimming in kiddie pools, lakes, rivers, and even some of the deeper parts of the ocean. Pomskies can use the water to cool off during hot summer days or just simply playing around and exercising.
Pomskies can be friendly with other pets, depending on their individual temperament. Generally, Pomskies are intelligent, active, and easy to train, so with proper training and socialization, most Pomskies should get along with other pets. If introducing a Pomsky to other pets, all parties should be closely monitored by their owner to ensure their safety and happiness. It would also be beneficial to have your pet spayed or neutered if they are not already, as this can reduce territorial aggression and make it easier to introduce them to other animals.
Pomskies can make wonderful pets, but like many breeds, they require patience and dedication for proper training. To start, create a routine for your Pomsky so it understands when certain activities, such as feeding time, obedience exercises, and playtime, are expected. Make sure to use positive reinforcement when training, such as treats or praise, to reward good behavior. As you work with your Pomsky, also make sure to make the trainings enjoyable and varied to make them more effective and interesting.
