Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique and increasingly popular canine hybrid breed created by cross-breeding a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky. Generally very small, weighing in between 10 and 30 pounds, they have a very friendly and loving nature while also showing great intelligence and being active and alert. Because of their small size, they can often be excellent lap dogs or city living companions and they make great family pets. With proper care, they can live to be around 15 years old. It is important to research their health needs while both parents have genetic health issues that could be passed on to their puppies.
Pomskies are generally considered hypoallergenic and low-shedding, however they are not completely non-shedding. Pomskies tend to inherit the traits of both the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, which means that they may not always be completely non-shedding. In general, they do have a lower shedding coat compared to other dogs, but they will still shed some fur. While not non-shedding, Pomskies can still be great companions for people with pet allergies. They also require regular grooming to keep their beautiful coats healthy and manageable.
Pomskies generally have the same dietary needs as any other small breed of dog. They typically require a high quality, commercial dry dog food specifically designed for small-breed puppies. The food formula should contain balanced fats, oils, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates. It is important to eliminate any foods that may cause dietary sensitivities or food allergies. Feeding times should be consistent and in small portions throughout the day. Monitor the food and drinking water intake rate and adjust accordingly to keep your Pomsky at a healthy weight.
Pomskies do have some special considerations that should be taken into account before bringing one home. Firstly, they are very active and require plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation. Secondly, their thick double coats need regular brushing and regular visits to the groomer. Without proper attention, their coats can become matted and uncomfortable. It's also important to remember that they are a relatively new type of hybrid dog and their behavior may be unpredictable due to hybrid vigor. Lastly, they tend to be very vocal and require strong and consistent training from a young age.
Pomskies have a very broad range in their size, which means that it can be difficult to answer a definitive 'yes' or 'no' to the question of whether or not Pomskies are considered big dogs. While some individual Pomskies may fit the general description of being a large dog breed, in general, Pomskies tend to be somewhere in between very small dogs and big dogs. This hybrid breed typically has a medium to slightly large size, so they may not be considered either 'big' or 'small' in the traditional sense, but rather somewhere in the middle.
Pomskies require moderate exercise to stay healthy and happy. A well-rounded amount of physical exercise is best for this breed, as daily walks and playtime will help to reduce behavior problems and anxiousness. Depending on the individual Pomsky's age, they should typically receive 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise per day. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the amount of exercise depending on the individual dog's needs. It is essential to take the energy level of your Pomsky into consideration when exercising.
Pomskies usually get along quite well with other pets! Because they are optimized for companionship and have friendly temperaments, Pomskies interact very well with other animals. They are not especially territorial and do not require a high level of separation or precaution when introduced to new pets. Still, it is important to take time to slowly and properly introduce the Pomsky to new animals, beginning by introducing them in low-stimulus areas and gradually giving them more access to each other. With patience, the Pomsky can form strong relationships with other pets, often times forming the closest bonds with cats!
Pomskies are known to be intelligent and loyal companion pets. This breed of dog is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, and is an active, loving dog that can make a great pet for someone with the right amount of time and energy to keep it happy. Pomskies are very intelligent and can be trained to follow basic commands, and they're also very loyal, protective, and affectionate with their owners.
