Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They have grown in popularity due to their small size, loyal personalities, and adorable good looks. Their rounded appearance and thick coat make them resemble a small bear. Pomskies are an active breed with lots of energy. They require at least an hour of exercise each day to stay healthy. They're also incredibly intelligent and easy to train.
Pomskies are a mixed breed of dogs, derived from parent breeds that may be more or less prone to shedding. Generally, these dogs have a combination of traits inherited from both Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies; and, while they may not be a "non-shedding" breed as a whole, it is possible to find individual Pomskies that do have low shedding coats. In addition, regular grooming should help reduce shedding and keep your Pomsky looking and feeling its best.
Pomskies, a mix between the Pomeranian and the Siberian husky, have a unique set of dietary needs so it is important to make sure they're getting the right meals. For optimal health, try to feed your Pomsky a combination of whole deboned cuts of meat, such as chicken, lamb, fish, and duck, fresh fruits and vegetables, and high-quality dry dog food. Canned food is an alternative as well. When selecting a kibble, look for a formula with no additional preservatives or chemicals.
To become the best puppy parent for your Pomsky, start by educating yourself about the physical and emotional needs of your pet. You should establish house rules and use positive reinforcement to effectively train your pup so that your little Pomsky will learn quickly and understand what is expected of them. Socialize your pup with other trusted canine friends and human beings, take them on regular outings to help them adapt to the outside environment, and provide supervised playtime to teach them the rules of social interaction.
Pomskies are considered small dogs, however, their size may vary depending on which parent breeds are used for the mix. Most Pomskies are 15-20 inches tall and weigh around 10-30 pounds. Generally, the coat of Pomskies is a dense double coat with moderate to high shedding. Because of their smaller size, they are well suited for apartments and don't need a large backyard. Pomskies make great companions for someone living an active lifestyle and appreciate daily exercise. Proper training and socialization is also essential for these high-energy, intelligent dogs.
Pomskies are indeed extremely active dogs and require plenty of exercise and mental stimulation in order to stay content. They are not long-distance runners but excel at sprinting, so a few short but intense daily activities and plenty of interactive play is the best way to make sure your Pomksy is happy and healthy. They also have high alertness and love to be involved in activities with their owners. So if you are looking for a canine companion to join in on plenty of outdoor activities, then a Pomsky might be right for you.
Pomskies can certainly be good companions for first-time owners, but it's important to consider all the factors of this unique breed before making a decision. These dogs require a lot of attention to ensure proper training and socialization, and their high level of intelligence means that they should be properly stimulated and challenged. It's also recommended that Pomskies are provided with plenty of exercise, preferably in a securely fenced area, which will help to avoid unwanted behaviors.
The amount of time a person should dedicate to training their Pomskies depends entirely on the individual's particular situation and overall goals. Generally speaking, however, it is recommended that owners provide their Pomskies with at least 15 minutes of focused training per day. That said, for those trying to tackle more involved tasks and/or prepare their Pomskies for more advanced commands and activities, it is often beneficial to increase the training sessions to at least 30 minutes a day.
