Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique designer breed of dog that is created from a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They typically have a thick, double coat of fur, and a wide range of colors. They are usually between 7 to 12 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 14 to 25 pounds. Pomskies have an impressive lifestyle; they are intelligent and highly energetic, and so need plenty of stimulation and exercise. They are loving and loyal animals, and form strong bonds with their owners.
Pomskies are a designer breed combining a Pomeranian and a Husky, and while there is no guarantee that any individual canine will have a particular set of traits, some do believe they are hypoallergenic. However, this is not necessarily the case for all individuals, as hypoallergenic is dependent upon both the individual animal and the individual allergy level. Nonetheless, as both parent breeds do have some tendency towards having hypoallergenic coats, the same could potentially be true for their mix.
Your Pomsky will need to eat a nutritious, balanced diet to stay in good health. Look for a food specifically designed to meet the needs of a small-breed adult dog. Your Pomsky may also enjoy high quality wet food, freeze dried food, and treats. If you are prepared to feed your pet home-cooked meals, make sure you plan for a well-balanced selection of dietary options. Consider offering a variety of lean proteins (chicken, fish, turkey, etc.
As a puppy parent of a Pomsky, it is important to create a loving and positive environment for your pup. Setting ground rules early on and teaching positive behaviors while also building trust and a strong bond can help ensure that your pet will grow into an obedient and well-mannered pet. Establish a consistent feed, potty, and playtime schedule for your Pomsky, ensure your pup is getting their daily exercise and playtime, learn and obey a variety of commands, and keep up with regular check-ups at the vet to monitor their health.
Pomskies are one of the smaller breeds within the Spitz family, so they do not get very large. The weight of a full-grown Pomsky is typically between 10 and 30 Pounds, with females usually on the smaller end. When mature, the dog will stand at 10 to 15 inches at the shoulder. However, proper nutrition, exercise, and genetics will dictate the overall size of the Pomsky, so it is possible for them to reach up to larger sizes.
Generally speaking, your Pomsky should get between thirty to sixty minutes of walktime each day. This allows them to get the exercise they need while also getting enough rest for proper mental and physical health. Thirty-minutes per day is the minimum amount they should get, however, additional daily walktime is highly recommended if possible. Make sure to pay attention to the weather and time of day when walking your Pomsky as extreme temperatures can be dangerous. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure your Pomsky has enough exercise and is kept healthy and happy.
Pomskies can typically make great family pets as they do well with kids when provided with appropriate socialization and training. Pomskies are intelligent and friendly, so as long as they are given the attention and care they need, they can be a great companion for both children and adults. The breed is loyal and caring, so they usually form strong bonds with their owners, and they enjoy interacting with people. Furthermore, they are small to medium in size, so they can easily be around children without worrying about accidents or injuries.
Training your Pomsky can be a rewarding experience. One of the most important steps when training your pooch is to keep it consistent. This means sticking to a routine, such as using positive reinforcement and providing rewards for good behavior. You'll also want to make sure you are using the same commands and familiarizing your pup with them. Additionally, you'll want to allow for plenty of socialization with other dogs and people, and practice potty training your pup as soon as possible. Lastly, make sure to provide your pup with plenty of exercise.
