Questions & Answers
A Pomsky is a designer dog hybrid breed created by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They often have a fluffy double coat and are considered well-suited for living in colder climates, like those experienced in Northern parts of the United States. The average size of a fully grown Pomsky varies from 10 to 15 inches, and can range from 15 to 30 pounds. They are loyal, affectionate, and have a tendency to be quite friendly to strangers.
Pomskies are not hypoallergenic dogs. Although their origins are a hybrid of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, and both of these breeds contain hypoallergenic coats, the Pomsky will not necessarily produce a hypoallergenic coat. There is no guarantee that the Pomsky will alleviate allergies for a person that is allergic to their coat. As with any other breed, the best way to determine if you are allergic to the Pomskies' coat is to spend time with them and see if you have a reaction.
Your Pomsky should not be given chocolate, caffeine, alcohol-based treats or food, dairy products, onions, avocado, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, large amounts of the sugar substitute Xylitol, or too many fatty foods. Too much consumption of any of these items can result in serious health issues for your pet. Additionally, things like raw eggs, raw or undercooked meats or fish, moldy food, garlic, and certain human medicines are all off-limits.
To be the best puppy parent for a Pomsky, the first and most important thing to do is to give them plenty of love and attention. Spend quality time with your puppy each day and make sure to take walks, play fetch, give treats, and shower them with much needed affection. You should also be sure to feed them a high-quality diet and keep a regular schedule for meals and potty breaks. Exercise is important too, so make sure to let your pup out for at least 20 minutes each day so that they can enjoy the outdoors.
Pomskies vary in size from small to large, but on average they are considered a medium-sized breed. While they can have a larger-than-average physique for a hybrid breed, depending on their exact mix, typically these dogs will not be considered a giant breed and will be smaller than the average large breed. That being said, some Pomskies can top out at around 30-35lbs and they can still be considered a big dog depending on environment and training.
Yes, Pomskies are very active dogs and make wonderful companions for those who enjoy taking part in activities like hiking, running, and going for regular walks. They have a high energy level and can require quite a bit of exercise to keep them happy and healthy. They love to play and explore, so they need plenty of stimulation and activity to keep them content and satisfied. Furthermore, they are incredibly smart and alert, which makes them excellent at tasks like agility and obedience training. All in all, Pomskies are no doubt an energetic and active breed.
Pomskies are a great choice for families looking to bring a loyal, fun-loving, and intelligent pet into their home. These designer dogs are known for their friendliness towards children, and are also relatively small, so they may be the perfect fit for family life. Pomskies are energetic and need plenty of exercise, so daily walks or trips to the dog park are essential. They also enjoy mental stimulation games, so activities such as hide-and-seek can be tailored to suit their intelligence.
Training your Pomsky is essential for creating a healthy relationship between you and your furry friend. It helps reinforce positive behaviors and discourage negative ones. Begin by establishing yourself as the leader and householder. Become familiar with their routines and take them outdoors regularly. When it's time for training, stick to short, positive reinforcement sessions and use treats as rewards. Make sure to stay consistent and gentle when addressing bad behavior. Once your pup has learned the basics like sit, stay and come, you can move on to more fun activities such as teaching them to fetch and roll over.
