Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid or designer dog breed, crossbred from a Siberian husky and a Pomeranian. While this breed has not officially been recognized by the American Kennel Club, the dogs do bear certain traits from each parent breed. For instance, they are generally friendly and intelligent, like Pomeranians, but also tend to be full of energy and have a thick coat of fur, like Siberian huskies. Pomskies can range in sizes, depending on which parent breed is more dominant, but they are generally smaller in size than a husky.
Pomskies generally do not cause the same number of allergies as other breeds because they are a relatively newer breed and have not been exposed to many allergens, but this does not guarantee that all individuals will be completely free of allergies. Generally, if you are prone to allergies, it is a good idea to discuss this with your veterinarian to ensure that you and/or your family members are not prone to allergies caused by a Pomsky. Additionally, if you think you may be prone to allergies, it is always important to consider the specifics of your environment before considering getting a Pomsky.
Pomskies are a relatively new designer dog breed, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer for what the best dog food is for them. However, Pomskies are small dogs and thus require a diet formulated to suit the needs of small breeds. Good nutrition is key for any canine, and Pomskies are no exception. Look for high-quality ingredients that are rich in protein and fiber, such as real meats or fish, and that contain high-grade carbohydrates, like brown rice, barley, or oats.
Before getting a Pomsky, be sure to purchase essential items like a collar, name tag, food and water dishes, a bed, and toys. Also, having items like puppy pads, odor removal, waste disposal bags, pet stain remover, and flea and tick prevention on hand is recommended. Additionally, it can be helpful to have a brush, comb, nail clippers, and scissors for grooming needs. Lastly, a secure harness and leash for walks outside can be a great investment.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes. Tiny, toy-sized dogs are very popular, having a small, compact body that stands at 8 to 10 inches tall and weighs 10 to 15 pounds. Then there are the Medium Pomskies, which stand at 15 to 18 inches tall and typically weigh 15 to 25 pounds. Lastly, there are the large Pomskies, which reach 18 to 22 inches tall and can weigh up to 30 pounds or more.
Pomskies can have a great love of swimming, depending on their individual personality. Each dog can have a different attitude towards swimming, however, it is possible for Pomskies to be quite enthusiastic about getting into the water. It can be beneficial to expose them to swimming as puppies so they can become accustomed to and comfortable with the water. Additionally, if a Pomsky has been properly trained and handled in a loving, gentle manner, it can really love to swim. Therefore, given the proper training and environment, a Pomsky can really enjoy swimming.
Pomskies can be a great choice for first-time owners. They are generally quite intelligent and easy to train making them ideal candidates for inexperienced owners. Due to their relatively small size, their exercise requirements are limited and they don't need a lot of space. Pomskies also require an owner who is willing to put in the effort to devote time and energy toward providing positive reinforcement through training. With the proper practice and commitment, they can make great companions that are affectionate and loyal.
Pomskies are often considered to be one of the smartest breeds of dogs, as they possess high levels of intelligence and are highly trainable. Pomskies are often eager to learn and are willing to please their owners and begin tasks upon command. Due to their intelligence, Pomskies are relatively easy to train and can even pick up commands and tricks in a short amount of time. Pomskies also retain the commands they are taught and can show an aptitude for problem-solving and thinking autonomously.
