Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer crossbreed, created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Siberian Husky. This class of dog is a small to medium-sized companion breed with thick double coat. They are considered an active and intelligent breed, known for their loyalty and playfulness with family and friends. Pomskies have a strong prey drive and may need additional training and/or socialization to control their enthusiasm. As with other hybrids, Pomskies can range in size, color and build, and may display physical characteristics of both parent breeds.
A Pomsky's coat can be either short or long, depending on their parents' genes. Generally, a Pomsky's coat is thick and heavy, providing them with ample protection from the elements. Their fur is made up of both an undercoat and a top coat, which can vary in color from black, brown, grey and white (sometimes with patches of other colors). They have thick, fluffy tails that are often curled, and their protective fur also insulates them from cold climates.
Pomskies can be very sensitive to certain foods, so it's important to understand what you should not feed them. If you're not sure, it's always best to consult with your vet. Generally, fatty foods and foods high in sodium should be avoided, as they can cause stomach irritation. Most dogs do not digest grains and dairy well, so any of these foods should also be avoided. Additionally, foods that are high in sugar or artificial sweeteners are also not a great idea.
One of the best ways to prepare your home for a new Pomsky pup is to puppy-proof your house. This includes removing any items that could be dangerous such as cleaning products and medications to areas that the puppy can not access. Additionally, you should designate areas for eating, sleeping, and playing and make sure they are as pet-proof as possible. Lastly, be sure to create a quiet area for the pup to retreat to when they are feeling overwhelmed or need some alone time.
Pomskies are considered "toy" dogs by the American Kennel Club. Generally, they measure between 10 and 15 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 10 to 30 pounds. So while they may not fit the traditional definition of a “big dog”, they can still be pretty large for a toy breed. Additionally, Pomskies can have physical features that make them appear larger than they are, such as thick coats of fur or a larger head than normal for the breed.
Pomskies generally show great enthusiasm when swimming. Many Pomskies are natural swimmers, enjoying the cool water and physical exercise. This breed is generally very intelligent and active, making swimming an ideal activity to keep their minds and bodies in shape. Each Pomsky is unique, so some may be better suited for swimming than others. Regardless, swimming is a great way to provide some fun exercise for your pup; it helps build strength and endurance, and it's also a great way to cool off in the summertime.
Pomskies are naturally friendly and sociable dogs with a playful and gentle nature. So when it comes to getting along with kids, these pups are certainly more than capable! As long as a Pomsky is socialized properly and given a positive and secure environment around kids, they should be able to form strong bonds with them. Pomskies are generally easy to train and enjoy spending time with family and children. They'll often offer plenty of hugs and cuddles to anyone that will give them the attention.
Pomskies require different amounts of physical activity depending on their age, size and health. Generally speaking, most Pomskies need between 30 minutes and 1 hour of exercise per day to stay fit and healthy. This should include both physical exercise, such as playing fetch, walking and running, as well as mental exercise and games. Be sure to keep your Pomsky's activity level sub-maximal to ensure that they don't over-exert themselves.
