Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer breed, a blend between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are often referred to as a “designer dog” due to their unique look. Pomskies are also known for their intelligence, energy, and gentle nature. This makes them a good fit for active families. If you're looking for a dog who needs little grooming, this could be a good choice. They are typically not high-shedders and do not need to be groomed more than a normal dog.
The Pomsky coat is unique and beautiful. It is a mix of both the Pomeranian and the Husky. Generally, Pomskies will have a thick and slightly-fluffy coat, although results can vary depending on the genes that are passed down. The most common colors for a Pomsky's coat are white, black, red, gray, and brown, although you may be able to find some with unique colorations. The coat is usually much shorter than a Husky's coat, but longer and thicker than a Pomeranian's.
Pomskies should not be fed anything that contains sugar, soy, wheat, or corn. Dog food should be of premium quality and contain a balanced combination of meat, fruits, vegetables, and carbohydrates. People food should be avoided as it is often high in fat and can induce serious digestive/health complications, including bacon, chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, garlic, and avocados. Additionally, it is important to never feed bones, as these can create significant risk of choking or intestinal obstructions and can damage their teeth.
Before getting a Pomsky, there are many essentials you need to consider buying. First, get the necessary items for pup such as a bed, crate, toys, food and water dishes, collar, leash, grooming supplies, and treats. It's also important to have the proper documents for pet ownership such as vaccination records, registration papers, and any needed permits. Additionally, you'll need several supplies to housebreak and train your pup, such as puppy pads, crate liners, potty-training treats, obedience classes, and a clicker.
It can be difficult to guess exactly how big your Pomsky puppy will ultimately grow to be, as size is highly variable between puppies. However, in general, Pomsky puppies can usually reach between 8 to 15 inches tall at the shoulder and may weigh around 10 to 30 pounds as an adult. The unique mix of its Siberian Husky and Pomeranian parents, means that you can generally expect your Pomsky to remain on the smaller side of medium-sized dogs.
Pomskies are active and energetic dogs, so daily exercise is essential to maintain their health and well-being. Depending on the age and health of your Pomsky, the amount of exercise will vary puppies and senior dogs may need less than an adult Pomsky. An adult Pomsky, on average, needs 30 minutes to an hour of activity a day, which can be broken up into walks, jogs, runs, and playtime. Exercise should also include physical and mental stimulation to tire the pup out and keep their brains active.
Yes, Pomskies usually get along well with kids. They are incredibly friendly and loving towards people, and often love to shower humans with attention. With their people-pleasing personalities and spunky nature, Pomskies make wonderful family pets for households with kids. They can be great playmates too since they have a lot of energy and love to run around and play. Just make sure the kids understand to be gentle and patient with the puppy since Pomskies are smaller and still developing.
The answer to how many minutes per day you need to train Pomskies depends largely on the individual dog. In order to determine how much training your individual Pomsky needs, it is important to consider their age, energy level, and personality. Puppies, for example, may need more frequent breaks and may require more energy to be appropriately trained. Generally speaking, a recommended amount of time to dedicate to training a Pomsky would be between fifteen minutes to an hour each day.
