Questions & Answers
Pomskies are truly a unique breed. With a parentage of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, these hybrid pets bring the best of both worlds; they possess the intelligence and athleticism of a Husky, while remaining smaller in stature than a full-sized Husky. They are also known for their outgoing personalities and enduring loyalty. Pomskies are also surprisingly easy to train, adapting quickly to complex commands.
Pomskies, a hybrid breed resulting from crossing a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, can be considered non-shedding. The combination of genes from both breeds can strongly affect the amount of shedding a Pomsky does. In some cases, depending on the amount of Husky or Pomeranian traits, a Pomsky may not shed, or its coat may not shed significantly. However, this is not a guarantee and a lot of variability can be seen between individuals. Generally speaking, grooming and brushing a Pomsky is recommended to help keep their coat manageable and healthy.
Pomskies are a hybrid dog breed, so they have an omnivorous diet like most other dog breeds. Depending on the size of the individual Pomsky, they need between 1/2 to 2 cups of high quality kibble per day, as well as supplemental human food and treats. When feeding your Pomsky, make sure to choose foods that are formulated specifically for dogs and avoid human food, as some types can be harmful. Their diet should include proteins such as lean meats and fish, carbohydrates such as healthy grains and vegetables, and healthy fats such as nuts and seeds.
When preparing your home for a new Pomsky, the most important thing is to ensure that you are creating a comfortable, safe environment. Start by providing adequate space for your pup, such as a dog bed, toys, and an area to rest. Next, set up a designated outdoor area to ensure your pup can take regular bathroom breaks. Be sure to purchase any necessary items (i.e. food and water bowls, a collar, a leash, toys, etc.) and place them in the proper area in your home.
Your Pomsky puppy can vary in size depending on its parents' genetics, but typically they tend to weigh between 10 and 30 lbs. if they are a hybrid of both Siberian Husky and Pomeranian. The average Pomsky stands at 10-15" tall at the shoulder, while miniature Pomskies may reach as low as 8-10" tall. Generally speaking, the Pomsky is considered a small or medium-sized breed, and while it's impossible to guarantee the size of any particular Pomsky puppy, this breed will generally stay within these size ranges.
Certainly! Pomskies are an active breed of dog and need daily exercise, so taking them running can be great for their health and well-being. However, you'll need to ensure that you take the proper steps to keep your pup safe and sound. Start slowly, allowing your dog to gradually build up their stamina and build muscles. Take breaks often and ensure they have plenty of water. You'll also want to make sure the terrain is suitable for both running and walking. Pomskies are adaptable, but they have sensitive feet.
Pomskies can be an excellent breed of dog for first-time owners, depending on the individual dog and the owner’s lifestyle. Pomskies are generally more low maintenance than other dogs, with a moderately inactive lifestyle and minimal grooming needs. They are typically friendly and affectionate, making them a good fit for a first-time dog owner. However, like all breeds they require appropriate training and socialization, so it's important to ensure that you have the time and energy to properly train your Pomsky.
Training a Pomsky can be easy or difficult, depending on each individual dog. Each dog has its own temperament, so the level of difficulty in training your pet will vary. Generally, Pomskies are an intelligent breed and can learn quickly when taught with consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. This type of training is a great way to establish a bond between you and your pet as it will create an understanding and trust between you two. Regular, consistent training sessions will help your dog grow and develop its manners and behaviors.
