Questions & Answers
The most intriguing thing about Pomskies is their unique blend of two ancient canine breeds the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian. This relatively new breed of designer dog is a smaller, more adaptable version of the popular Husky. This combination of two truly magnificent breeds results in a highly intelligent and loyal companion that is both beautiful and alert. With a luxurious double-coat and diverse colouring, Pomskies are sure to catch your eye. They are also highly active and curious, making them wonderful family pets.
The Pomsky coat is a mix of its two parents, the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, making it truly unique. It will usually have a thick double coat, with a dense undercoat topped by a longer topcoat. It tends to be short and woolly close to the body, but longer around the head, legs and tail. The coat of this breed will usually be quite soft, but may be course or have a wirey texture depending on which parent bloodline the pup has.
Pomskies do not have any special dietary needs that are unique to the breed. However, all dogs should be fed quality food that's specific to their breed, age, size, and lifestyle. A balanced diet should include essential macroand micronutrients, as well as plenty of fresh water. Puppies, in particular, have higher requirements for certain minerals and vitamins and should be given meals designed specifically for their age and stage of development.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, it's important to take some steps to make sure your home is ready. First, puppy-proof your living space by checking for any items that could present a potential danger to your pup and putting them out of reach. Make sure to seal up outlets, secure any cords or wires, and remove any plants that may be toxic. Second, set aside a space for your pup that is their own, such as a room or corner of your home, and pick up some pet-specific items like a crate, toys, and bedding.
Pomskies are not considered to be large dogs, but they can have larger than average sizes. A mature full-grown pomsky can stand between 10 to 15 inches tall and can weigh between 12 to 28 pounds, making them larger than most toy breeds but smaller than the average medium-sized canine. With their thick, fluffy coats, their size can make them appear larger than they actually are. They are typically active dogs who do well in homes with plenty of space, but they may be content even in an apartment if they get enough exercise.
Pomskies are active and intelligent dogs that require regular and adequate exercise to stay fit and healthy. Depending on the age of your Pomsky, they should receive anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of exercise a day. This could include activities like going for long walks, playing fetch, or swimming. It's important to ensure the exercise includes at least some physical and mental stimulation in order to prevent boredom.
Pomskies can be excellent with kids as long as they are brought up in a positive and responsible manner. They are highly intelligent and bond quickly, making them eager and willing to please their owners. With proper care and attention, a Pomsky can be a loving, loyal, and outgoing companion to children. When socializing with young ones, it's important to take your time introducing your Pomsky and allowing them to get used to the environment. They should also learn how to respond to basic commands, like come, sit, and stay.
Training a Pomsky should never be rushed. It's important to take the time necessary to promote good behavior and build a positive relationship between pet and owner. Each Pomsky has its own unique personality and energy level, making it difficult to determine exactly how many minutes of training should be done each day. Generally, it's recommended that Pomsky owners set aside at least 15 minutes, daily, for training. However, this should be supplemented with plenty of play time and consistent reinforcement of positive behaviors.
